A question for the players and coaches

Who is/was the best teammate you have had on your team? What made him such a good teammate?

I have one in mind, but I'll post it later

 

I'll never forget a young man named Daniel Foster. Daniel was an '05 graduate from South Meck. He was not blessed with the greatest talent on the team, but had the greatest character and heart. He would practice harder then anyone...dive for balls, run into fences and bloody his nose if it came to that. He was always the first one off the bench to congratulate a teammate, never whined and groaned about not playing often and through his character, demanded respect from his teammates and gave the same respect back.

To me, the Daniel Foster's are becoming more rare as each year, it seems, the competitive level on many teams create friction and jealousy. But Daniel was the glue to his team's success in playing for the State Championship. He was/is held in esteem by his teammates, not because of what he did in a game, but what he did before, during and after the game.

Daniel did these things during a year that he lost his Dad. But, he never would allow his own personal grief and sorrow to spill over to the dugout. It certainly would have been understood if Daniel became withdrawn...but... he felt he owed his teammates support and dealt with his personal grief in private.

What a terrific young man and team leader

 

Braves....great choice!!! I saw Daniel at a football game a few weeks back and he is still one of the most respectful young men I have ever met. Great kid (Young Man)!!!!!

 

Ray

For me , the answer to this question is a no-brainer. The best teammate I ever had (& this was 30 yr's ago!!) was Ray Tanner in HS baseball.
Besides being an outstanding player both in the field and at bat, Ray was a fine person and a supreme leader on the field and off who just had that certain way about him to lead by the example of his habits and actions and verbally he knew what to say to motivate you without offending you.

Another thing, although Ray was an all-star player , he acted the same towards the sub's as well as the regulars. Something as mundane as throwing to warm up before a game or practice, he'd just as soon ask a lowly sub to throw with him or a starter; it didn't seem to matter.

Ray was just a pleasure to play with. His success in coaching is not at all surprising. He was and still is " a baseball guy".
