in last year's MLB world series, I think a Derek Jeter tried unsuccessfully bunting on a 3rd strike and someone else tried to steal but was caught.
announcers said they felt that both instances the player decided these attempts on their own.

so in pro baseball (MLB), how often does this occur? players deciding on their own to attempt plays that may be considered strategy situations and may be critical to winning / losing.
seems like in the WORLD SERIES, the manager would dictate strategy.

Most likely depends on the player...a guy like Jeter has a high baseball IQ and it would make sense to allow him to act on the fly. I doubt that you would want to give a knucklehead like Manny Ramirez the same liberty.

Jeter took the fall for the 3rd strike bunt attempt. He said that he should have moved the runner on the first 2 attempts. Jeter will go down in history as one of the best players ever. If some player has the green light to do what he wants I'd think Jeter would have that gig.
Whats cool is he owned the fubar and never let the media trounce on the play calling by the managers.

    Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending on the announcer, take their commentary with a grain of salt
