A New One on Me

The Madison at West Henderson game scheduled for today has been rescheduled for Monday. The reason, Madison did not have a bus driver. No wonder that school has a new coach every year. They found a driver to take the softball teams to Brevard but couldn't get the baseball team to West. How often does this happen in other parts of the state?

 

I would have said never...................until today

 

Bus Drivers

Wake County requires that bus drivers:

• Must be 18 years old.
• Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
• Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minimum of two years.
• With 2-4 years total driving experience: no more than one ticket or at-fault accident during that period.
• With 5-9 years driving experience: no more that two tickets or two at-fault accident during that period.
• With 10 or more years experience: no more that two tickets and one at-fault accident or two at-fault accidents and one ticket during that time period.
• No convictions of DWI in the last 10 years.
• No convictions of reckless driving in the last 10 years.
• No conviction for passing a school bus in the process of making a passenger stop.
• No suspension of driving privileges in the last 10 years due to a moving violation (a suspension for failure to appear does not count).
• Any prospective driver who has had a license in another state within the last five years must provide a driving record from that state as well as possess a valid NC driver’s license.
• Take class and pass examinations administered by DMV and receive CDL with "S" and "P" endorsements.

Could be that you can find coaches but they do not qualify to drive the bus.

 

I thought that the school system(s) change the age requirement to 21. Having been a bus driver years ago (while in school the 80's) bus drivers needed to take a class before getting the great bus drivers lic. Now you have CDL's and the class in some cases. I have heard that activity bus drivers earn about $35 to $45 for sports events. Not sure about other events. Problem start time 3:30 4:30 . Most leave it up to a teacher/coach to get this lic to driver. Most coaches or assistances get these extra cash$$$$$$. As long as a person meets these requriments and is hire by the school to driver. A parent could do this easy. Just think free gas, no entry fee, and you get paid. Problem Time >>>>>>>>>.

Been there done that and can you blame them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pay is piss poor ( not awful tho) and the kids are animals (welll alot of them)!
PS Schools as some do mandate the coaches get their CDL's again been there done that yet they refuse therefor coachng ranks depleted and because the admin has the audacity to ALSO ask them to sub bus routes sad so sad!!!!!!!!
