2008 USA Baseball - Tournament of Stars (Cary, NC)

    If you're in the area or off any this week, come by the USA Training Complex here in Cary. 144 of the Nation's TOP High School players are playing this week there.

    What: 2008 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars presented by Major League Baseball



    2007 Tournament of Stars at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. (USA Baseball)
    The Tournament of Stars (TOS) is made up of 144 of the nation's best ballplayers that are international age-eligible (born in 1990 or 1991). They are invited by 8 youth baseball groups (AABC, American Legion, Babe Ruth, Dixie, PONY, NABF, RBI, and USA Baseball) and compete on 8 teams under the same names. The seven youth groups select their players first, then USA Baseball selects an "at-large" team from the players not selected by the seven youth groups. Generally speaking, official invites for the tournament will be sent from the USA Baseball office in late April. These players form the pool of talent from which USA Baseball will select its 18U National Team to represent our country in international competition. To nominate a player for consideration, please click on the Player Nomination Form link above.
    The 18U National Team program has a storied history with alumni including superstar Major Leaguers Paul Konerko, Mike Mussina, Alex Rodriguez, and John Smoltz, and recent #1 Overall Picks in the Major League Draft - Joe Mauer (2001), Delmon Young (2003), Matt Bush (2004), Justin Upton (2005), and Luke Hochevar (2006). Additionally, 2005 AL Rookie of the Year Huston Street played in the 2001 TOS. Typical TOS players are highly motivated to be the next person added to this esteemed list.

    Eric Brady ('09, INF, Green Hope HS) and Matt Batts ('09, LHP/IF, Mt. Tabor HS) are on the USA Stars team.

    Corey Thompson (IF/RHP, Apex HS) is on the Pony team.

    Richie Shaffer (IF/RHP, Providence HS) is on the Dixie team.

    This is a

    great event and a tremendous experience for the players. My son played in it last year and he had a ball. You will see some very talented players at this event some of the top 09's in the nation. And there will be some younger 08's playing in it as well. The teams will work out for college and pro scouts and play several games against one another during the week. Its all wood bat and the games are very competitive. If your in the area and want to see some very good baseball this one is a must see event. If your into scouting players you don't want to miss this one.
