depends upon the situation. when you only have 14 girls come out for softball, it becomes practice.....i understand that only one team in our conference will have enough for a jv team......sad...

Went to a middle school tryout yesterday that had 32 girls there. They head coach was the only coach there. How can she see all those girls & remember what she saw? Didn't write anything down & moved groups of girls all over the place. Guess we will see shortly.

I think that many of our most conversational participants have moved on to the next level. We need to draw some new, young blood in here LOL

For our school, practices were rather mundane. Basketball is definitely hampering the tryout/pre-season practice routine as numerous returning and new players are not permitted to participate in tryouts. Many new faces on the fields, but a disappointing turn out in terms of number. We will be able to field a JV team, but the level of competitiveness is questionable at this time at that level.

Things might get more exciting as the week moves on :)

    PT, young talent & drop-offs

An idea: pin a # on their back to keep up with who is who. sad part is many MS's will probably keep a goodly # , maybe 16 or 18? tough to get 'em all some decent PT.

As far as JV, if you can even field a team ......that level is rough many times as to level of play with so many frosh & soph's playing important roles on the varsity. Advent of TB has pushed young girls to early levels of high skills and talent. And this coupled with lot of jr's & sr's losing interest and dropping out of the sport.

Gonna seem real quiet for our family this highschool season as my daughter has decided that she doesnt want to pitch jv for the 3rd year and throw varsity batting practice ( fastballs only, movement pitches are not permitted) to one of the best hitting teams in the state. She is filling in for a team in Georgia this spring until her 18u showcase team hits the field in june. Georgia highschool plays in the fall so they actually play competitive travel ball in the spring. Kind of sad not to utilize nc talent at her own school, but she will pitch to very good competition in Ga

I don't get it. Your dd is a pitcher only with a better pitcher on the team? With three years of JV is she a junior. You make this out to be so sad, what about having fun with school mates playing for your HS. She can still pitch on the weekends for the GA team. If the coach does not allow this so what she is not playing anyways. It goes by so fast enjoy the ride. It seems all is so serious. It is okay if your DD is not the star, having fun is part of the ride as well.

Pitching BP to varsity with only fastballs allowed to one of the best-hitting teams in the state doesn't sound much like fun.

If your DD can decline the varsity BP I would consider playing.
