18U USSSA National Tourney

    The 17U Charlotte MegaStars participated in the 2005 USSSA 18U Nationals this past week in Kissimmee, FL. They took 3rd Place. The following were the Pool/Bracket Play results:

    Pool Play
    MegaStars 4 Triple Play (IL) 1
    MegaStars 5 Kissimmee Dragons (FL) 6
    MegaStars 5 Franklin S&L (OH) 8
    MegaStars 4 Space Coast Meteors (FL) 0
    MegaStars took 2nd in their Pool and Advanced to Winners Bracket

    Winners Bracket Play
    MegaStars 4 Carolina Hurricanes (NC) 1
    MegaStars 4 Orlando Baseball Academy (FL) 0
    MegaStars 5 Franklin S&L (OH) 8
    MegaStars 0 Georgia Stars 18U 8
    MegaStars took 3rd Place- Franklin S&L 1st Place- Georgia Stars took 2nd Place

    MegaStars Named to the All* Tourney Team were:
    Robbie Bray- 2 Wins
    Evan Taylor- batted over .600
    Chase Martin- 1 Win and 2 Monstrous HomeRuns

    Other Players who had a Solid Tourney:
    Keith Mauney- 10 for 25 w 3 Doubles and 1 Triple
    Cheeto Bradley- played a solid short and had 1 Monster HomeRun
    Drew Wallace- 1 Win and Several Saves
    Andrew Hufstettler- played a solid rightfield and had several Doubles
    Bryant Gaines-stalwart at 1B and several hard hits
    Sumner Patterson- had a 3 for 3 game
    Taylor Patterson- spearheaded many big innings batting in the 2nd hole

    TWENTY Teams Qualified to participate the USSSA Nationals. From what I understand, each team had to WIN their respective USSSA State Championship--either last Fall or this Spring to Qualify. Please Check out the USSSA.com website (baseball/majors/s.florida/18U) for more details. I am not an expert on the subject.
