I don't really believe that UNC expected to get the big three (Bumgarner,Porcello & Harvey) in 07. They are probably thrilled just to get one and factored that into their recruiting.
As it is, they now have a roster of 36 with over 75% in-state and will probably only lose 7 players to graduation and the draft in 08.
So if only 7 out of 11 opt to attend UNC (and nobody transfers), the roster stays at 36.
UNC has had a stranglehold on in-state recruiting in recent years so it will be interesting to see who steps up to fill the void if the Tar Heels start recruiting
    nationally.

The Tar Heels already recruit nationally. I just think they do it to fill special needs. As long as the state of NC keeps producing talent at the current level, UNC will be able to keep their roster filled with a high percentage of home grown talent.

Good point. It also doesn't hurt that UNC is relatively inexpensive for a school of it's stature, so remaining out-of-pocket expenses for athletes are affordable. Boshamer Stadium is also undergoing a major upgrade, which is going to make UNC even more attractive from a baseball standpoint.
The fact is, that when any pro prospect commits to UNC, signability becomes a huge issue for MLB teams. UNC is not only stiff competition for DI schools, but also for MLB, so there doesn't seem to be much preventing an increased national recruiting effort. I doubt that we see 75% in-state players at Chapel Hill again after this year.

    BOND!

Good to hear from you! Cleaned up on the Christmas trees already and your back to lurking the web I see. How are things there? What is the status of RM and the little Minfords.
Agree, UNC will make an even tougher to recruit against once their stadium upgrade is in place.
Is the hot stove fired up over that the Watauga Baseball Winter facility and Quansit Hut?
    You are the man!

The Kodiak is doing very well as a Quaker. Loves the school, Greensboro, his new coaches and teammates. Quite lean now from his fall workouts. 6'4", 215lbs. You'ld be hard pressed to recognize him. He says his pitching coach has really helped him alot and has given him encouraging feedback. Hard a very good fall has continued working hard and is ready for the season. He has signed a contract to play for the Morganton Aggies in the SCBL this summer so we're all excited about that.
Merry Christmas to all. Stay warm.
