What's enough or too much in terms of schedules, workouts, etc...?

I think it depends on what the player wants to accomplish. If they want to play beyond HS or compete for a position at a HS known for its baseball, then the competetive landscape dictates that they workout almost year round. Winter strength and conditioning workouts from Nov-Feb with some real down time for the holidays, HS baseball team Feb-May, Jun-Aug summer team tournament and showcase. Fall ball tournaments say Sept-Oct along with strength workouts along the way. Focus like this certaintly isn't for everybody and it certainly guarantees nothing... but the players will've gotten themselves into a position to compete.

If they are a multi sport player like #19 from the Carolina Copperheads (place-kicker, roundball, baseball) then they are workin year round anyway using different muscles and skills, so hopefully they won't wear out.

If the player isn't planning on playing "officially" beyond HS but want to compete at the HS level, then they probably really need winter workouts and summer ball in addition to their school season.

In general I think "Too much" is reached any time the player isn't willing to prepare themselves for what they want to accomplish. If their own desire and self motivation are the fuel to maintain a rigorous schedule like that, then more power to them.

The one area in baseball I've seen that is really vulnerable to "Too much" is pitching. Coaches can and do. They can demand too much of their pitchers way too early: like having an starter pitch 8+ innings the first game of the HS season on a cold Feb night. It took this pitcher several weeks to recover from that one a few years ago. Or just too many pitches, like on 2 summers ago when Mason from Cherryville Legion was throwing 120 pitch outings and 3 days rest. Or letting LL's throw 60-70% curve balls. It happens, I've seen everyone of these things.

Outside of pitching, if the player is motivated, its probably tough to get too much - as long as their grades are up! And if they really desire to play collegiately, the schedule we started out with (above) is nothing!
