Does anybody know of any high school football coaches who are currently "under the gun". I know the coach at West Charlotte is currently roasting on the coals; there's no way you shouldn't win with that much talent. I don't think one win over Central Cabarrus will hold his job for him. Speaking of Central, I also heard from a friend of mine at South Stanly that they were going to talk to one of the Central coaches about taking over their program. This guy has'nt been a head coach before, but he has evidently lead the JV football and softball teams to outstanding records. If anybody else has heard anything on this subject, please post.

    ???

I know of the assistant who was at Mount Pleasant. He moved to CCHS last year to be the JV head football coach And JV softball at central, but he doesn't have his degree yet. He knows the area and the folks.

A couple that I wonder about...
Does the coach at Asheville Reynolds make it? I know they have had a rough season, and lot of trouble about the schedule deal.

Does the coach at Chase make it? I know he has had some success, but you do hear rumblings, esp. now that RS Central is playing better.

I think Reynolds is playing a lot of sophmores this season, I don't think it would be the correct decision to let him go. Plus, I think the whole scheduling deal may have went back to Poss, maybe Reynoldsrocks can give us more detail on that.

What I worry about is Dave Haynie's future at McDowell. I also think it would be a terrible mistake if McDowell were to let him go. One year under a new regime, more cooperation from the Middle School and Rec leagues with Haynie than with any other coach. I think it would be wise to give this man another year or two. Problem is, politics run rampid at McDowell sometimes and tends to get people sent packing.

Coach McCurry at Reynolds isn't going ANYWHERE. Yeah there are a few people who are disgruntled, but there were people calling for Poss to leave as well his first two years when he went 7-5, then 3-7, but he turned out to do an okay job I think. Yeah we are playing A LOT of young guys (5 sophomores on defense), we have had 4 starters go down with SEASON ENDING injuries (3 of which happened the week of or the week after the first game, the other during summer workouts). The schedule thing, well I am not going into that, but lets just say we flipped our schedule from home to away, that is all we did, just like we do EVERY year. We didn't move any game or anything, just took the games we played at home one year and put them as away the next year in the same slot, i.e. week 1 Asheville away, week 2 Owen home...and did that for every team we played the year before. Swain was the ones that added a game and ended up pushing us up a week. I said I wasn't going to get into it but looks like I did huh. I personally think it was just a misunderstanding. We had them as the 4th week game just like we had the year before. Really the NCHSAA pushing the games up a week the year before is what caused all the problem, and then moving everything back this year. That caused the contracts to be wrong. I guess flipping our schedule from the year before was wrong, but that is how most teams do it. Anyway Coach McCurry will not be going anywhere unless there is something that I am totally out in left field about, which is possible. I hope this sheds a little light on the subject, and that is my 2 cents worth.

I knew there were others with more insight than me on the AR situation. Did AR loose a lot of kids to other schools? I know that has been some of the talk around here.

I think the Reynolds situation is just a result of scheduling and youth. Whatever comes from that is anybody's guess, but I don't think Reynolds should give up on their coach too soon. Going back to the Central business, you say this guy left Mount Pleasant for Central? Seems to me that Mount would have done more to hold on to a coach of that caliber. I not sure, but I doubt that the JV football and softball programs at Mount are as good as they are at Central. If this is the case, and this assistant is the catalyst for the success of the young Central teams, then how long can they hope to hold onto him? Plus, can anybody add any credibility to what I heard about the South Stanly situation. Its unusual for a school to seek out an assistant coach like that, but...all head coaches have to start somewhere.

I was asked the same thing when I was at our JV game at Alexander Central this past week. What kind of rumors are going around down the mountian? We didn't lose one person to another school this past year, that I know of, if we did, he wasn't any type of impact player. We did have a three kids not play because they chose to play fall baseball. However, only one of them would have probably been a starter. Man you have a rough season and rumors spread like wildfire!
