Come on ya'll... just because summer is over doesn't mean there can't be any more baseball talk. What's happening across the state now as we get ready for 2005!?

August is the down month. Most of the teams shutdown in August for vacations and then school resumes.

There is also a Quiet Period starting September 1st and running until the 9th of September this year. During that period, the college coaches can't evaluate players off campus. A lot of the Labor Day tournaments that used to occur for the HS age players have just dried up during this time and few attend them any more.

Workouts are resuming for the teams now and play will begin after the first week in September.

It's just quiet right now .... even in College, the guys aren't working out with their teams yet ... just lifting, running and throwing.

I expect the action will heat back up shortly.

Coastal had scheduled a 3 day tournament last week-end but Gaston changed all that. Teams entered were Gamers and Dirtbags(Impact teams), College Select, Pro Level Sports, Anglers, Mid-Atlantic Rookies, Maryland Select, Richmond Braves, Carolina Cubs, Tidewater Devil Rays, and Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Friday pm some games had already been canceled for Sat. so teams just went home. Sat turned out rather nice, and we saw a morning game at Coastal between Rookies and College Select so some of the games (seemed to be a readjusted schedule) were played. Didn't hang around any longer so I was just wondering if anyone else here was there that could fill us in on what teams did get a chance to play on Sat.

One in Charleston this coming week-end(Labor Day) but Frances might just have something to say about that one too! :mercy:

Does the upcoming Charleston tournament have an internet site? If so, please list.

The Charleston Tournament is during a quiet time. College Coaches aren't allowed to evaulate players off of the campus during quiet times.

Due to the changes to the NCAA regs, I imagine that most of these Labor Day events for the showcase teams will die off by next year. The only college coaches that can be present will be if the game is played on their field and that's not scheduled to occur during this event.

The host team is the SC Diamond Devils. They have their own website
South Carolina Diamond Devils and the schedule is posted there. All of the games are being played at High Schools, so it will be mainly for practice for the teams.

Here is the link to the weekend schedule, listing teams playing in the event:

I ought to clarify this post a bit.

No, the College Coaches won't be there. Yes, there will be scouts there. Most of the scouts present will also have "friends" in the college coaching ranks, so expect quite a few calls to go out to colleges after the event.

It's not "actively scouted", but you still need to play your best. You WILL be seen and it WILL be duly noted. The baseball world is a rather small fraternity. Word gets around and info is shared quite freely.

Any TBR reporters go and can report on how games went?
Anyone know what college or pro scouts were in attendance?
