I need some time to put some stats together, but I do what to make one comment. How cool is it that last year one could watch Daniel Bard and Robert Woodard on a HS baseball diamond and less than one year, you can watch them on TV?! :D

Now hold on, O. You've heard of The Three Bears? Well, three Charlotte boys, Taylor "TMac" MacCurdy (Providence), Brian Neill (South Meck), and Matt Wiley (West Charlotte) had outstanding years at Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bears finished a couple of games under .500 for the year after losing four of their key pitchers (McLeymore, Cooper, Patterson, and Kennett) to arm problems/injuries midway through the season. Cooper and Patterson ended up having surgery. The Bears were forced to rely heavily on three freshmen and three upperclassmen pitchers, all with limited pitching experience. Given the unexpected injuries, these guys all did a commendable job and the freshmen received a lot of playing time and experience that will hopefully pay off next season. L-R loses starting infielders Brian Neill (3B) and Jason Bridges (2B) to graduation, but should have a healthy, battle tested team next year. If the pitching comes around, they should be strong.

MacCurdy, Neill and Wiley's year end stats:

MacCurdy - .287AVG, 24R, 41H, 6 2B, 1 HR, and 15 RBI. Nice glove, and a great job at shortstop for a freshman who started swinging a hot bat at the end of the year. He will continue to improve. On top of that, a nice young man.

Neill - .287 AVG, 31 R, 41 H, 7 2B, and 15 RBI. Almost identical to TMac. Four year honor student. Brian's senior leadership will be missed. We wish him well as he begins a life after baseball.

Wiley - .357AVG, 32R, 71H, 11 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, 42 RBI, and 16 SB in 16 attempts. South Atlantic All-Conference (First Team). Following a good freshman season last year, not bad for someone whose ability and achievements in high school were doubted by many because "Dub C" wasn't a "baseball school". Langston, where are you? Like Mark Schleicher (Providence, Pfeiffer, and Tampa Bay) did at Pfeiffer, Matt's speed has improved greatly in the past year as a result of proper training, plyometrics, stretching, a lot of running, and hard work in the weight room. Three tool player in high school. Four tool player now?

Nice job, Bears. :applause: :applause: :applause:
