Depends on the batter... but 9 times out of 10... bunt the runners over. So much more can happen from 3rd than 2nd... Sac Fly, Wild Pitch/PB, infield error, etc.

I agree with Downsouth...a successful bunt puts extreme pressure on the pitcher and defense. In many cases(depending where in the lineup), it leads to an intentional walk putting more pressure on the pitcher.

Ahhh...it just hasn't seemed right this year without playme's "Top of the 7th"

Hey Braves...i have been busy this year..

Good luck to you guys in the post season...

    7, 8, 9 hitters are due up....#7 is the starting catcher 0-3 but a very capable bunter, # 8 is a DH 0-3, and #9 is 0-3..

oh btw the game was delayed about 30 minutes because a streaker entered from the 1st base side, ran toward 2b and headed for the gate in CF..

    well.....

95% of the time yes you should in fact BUNT! Yet is the guy capable of bunting is he a good bunter does the coach have confidence in him etc... Also, what about giving other guys opportunitys to play a huge role in a win especially other than a perfect record to see if they are capable of coming thru in the clutch and havent been given much "opportunities" to this point??? How does a player get experience without being put in the frey with the game on the line etc.... Perhaps in earlier situtations he has in fact provedn his ability on the other hand too.... Oh and by the way how well does the kid (s) run at the plate and on base as well... Alot of things going on in one's mind here coach or not! Don t ya think?

Without question, a sacrafice bunt is the order of the day, but i'm afraid that 'O' is right, these days the coach has to know his players. In HS baseball, it is sometimes necessary to consider who's at the plate and where you're at in the order, but a SAC bunt IS the fundamentally correct play. Unfortunately, fundamental baseball is no longer popular these days, especially with the players. IMO we have ourselves to thank for that. (meaning baseball fans in general) The excitment of the long ball has over shadowed the execution of fundamental baseball. It's what we (the fans) pay to see when we go to a MLB game and it's what our children have been exposed to when they watch a game on TV.

IMO, NO player is a complete hitter if he can't execute a sacrafice bunt, period.

To take it another step...most HS players don't know how to bunt..period!! sacrifice or drag! there are a few I have seen that could, but most can't.

I saw a player that was doing a squeeze play and he was turned around before the pitcher came to a set position. I wanted to jump the fence to teach him.

How many times have you seen a player try to set down a drag bunt with his feet already moving before the ball reaches the plate...fundamentals... Ugh!!!!

on a sac play i would like to see the batter square around while the pitcher is in his motion, crouch, and get the bat out in front and catch the ball with the fat part of the bat...too many high schoolers are not taught that they are giving themselves up in order to move the runners up and that this is good...blame the metal bat....fundamental baseball wins games...

back to our situation...catcher was lifted for a pinch hitter...after a strike out a wild pitch occured moving a runner to 3d....now you have 1 out, runners at 1st and 3d...what do you do?
