Under the new realignment plan as modified yesterday by the NCHSAA, there would be a growth in the number of mixed/dual conferences.

Locally (Charlotte-Meck area), there would be quite a few mixed conferences, which is a new thing for this area. For you guys with some experience in these conference types, how well do they work?

    Examples:
#1. Gaston County would be in a combo 4A/3A conference.
    4A,Asbrook, East Gaston, Crest
3A,Forest View, North Gaston, South Point, Hunter Huss

#2. Mecklenburg County would have it's own 4A/3A conference
4A, Berrry, Garinger, Harding, West Meck, 3A, Olympic, Waddell, Charlotte Catholic

#3. Meck County would also have 2 4A only conferences.
JM Robinson, Central Cabarrus, Hopewell, North Meck, West Charlotte, Vance

Weddington, Providence, Independence, East Meck, Myers Park, South Meck, Butler

#4. To the West, there would be a combo 3A/2A conference.
3A, Burns, Kings Mountain, R-S Central, 2A, Shelby, East Rutherford, Chase

#5. Up in the Catawba Valley Region, there would be a 3A/2A combo.
3A, Hickory, St. Stephens, FT Foard, 2A, Bandys, Bunker Hill, Maiden, Newton-Conover, West Caldwell, Hibriten

Any thoughts on the subject? Do the conferences make geographic sense? For more details, go to the NCHSAA web site and follow the link to the Re-alignment recommendations.

It appears they have put a lot of thought into this. The rivalries remain and the travel costs have been reduced :xyzthumbs

Agreed Braves....but we sure hate to lose Kannapolis in the NPC 3A. We'll also lose E. Rowan to 4A. I look for Lake Norman to have 4A numbers very soon as well. Oh well....thats progress!

    I agree with you Braves...

It seems to me that regional alignment was a main concern. Greater travel time means more class time missed, a major concern of administrators.

Up here in the mountains they have finally come to their senses and preserved the natural rivalries.

6 team 2A: Brevard, Pisgah, Smoky Mountain, West Henderson, East Henderson, and North Henderson.

7 team slpit 2A/1A: Hendersonville, Polk County,Avery County, Owen, Madison, Mountain Heritage and Mitchell.

This split the schools closer to size.

MAC 3A will include: Franklin, Tuscola, Asheville, Enka, TC Roberson, Erwin, and North Buncombe

By eliminating the 9 team conferences we have been having to deal with, we can now have some post season conference tournaments for baseball.

How would playoff spots be determined for conferences with two classifications ?

It generaly depends on how many teams from each classification you have in a conference, unless the NCHSAA comes up with a formula if let's say the only 2 4A teams in a 4A-3A conference were state powers. What are some thoughts on that from some of you gurus that have been around the High School Coaching scene a while?
