Defense: I like the ss covering and the 2nd baseman cutting in between the pitcher and the bag. The 2nd baseman decides whether to cut off the ball while keeping his eyes on the runner at 3rd.

I also like my pitcher to hold the ball a little longer before delivery...many times the runner at first is too anxious and breaks early. At this point, the pitcher throws it to the 2nd baseman before the bag and he decides what to do.

what's the game situation? inning?, outs?, where in the batting line up? score?, etc.

there's more than 1 solution to each situation in baseball...the game situation determines the attempted solution(s)...

not only the game situation, but also the personnel involved in the play as well. who are the runners? what about the players up the middle on defense (catcher, SS, and 2b).

in a perfect world, i hate to take two players out of position on defense so i like to cover second base with only one player. 2b with a right handed hitter and SS with a lefty. the third baseman keeps close tabs on the runner at third and calls when he breaks to home. the middle infielder must come off the base to cut the throw down a little short to make the play at the plate.

this is one of those plays that has to be practiced EVERY day. both from the offensive and defensive standpoint. everyone involved has to know their job and execution is key. good accurate throws on defense are key. solid decisions all around must be made.

    two quality replies.......

I have one that I have done for years and is succesful 98% of the team in either preventing the run , or throwing the guy out at second, or doubling them both up!!!!!!

    Hi Braves...i been lurkin'
How bout them "Cougars"...Monday Payne vs Green>? Hardee vs Comer..who do ya like?

"O" we are asking you for more info..game situation...kinda like a "Top of the 7th"....which pitcher is in, senior or frosh?...can he hit his spots?.. mine better or he won't be on varsity,..slide step or lift, varying keeps opposing coach from timing move...2 count fake to 3d go to 1st?..3 count go to 3d.. normal move to 1st to see if batter tips...just step off....pitch-out...lead off or #9 hitter?...did he move for a bunt?...new coach or home grown, 20 yr guy?...

i have pet plays that work 98% too, but 2% cost my team and usually due to inability to execute...fundamental baseball wins games and must be practiced every day..everytime a player comes through the gate and steps on the field, he must prove that he belongs there..

I had a chance to watch Wautaga play against South Meck this year...and Green pitched against us. He's very good, but I think this is the year of the Cougars...Matt Payne is a stud, both on the rubber and at the plate. This is one of the premiere games this week and the intensity should be awesome!

    I agree Braves..

i haven't seen Green pitch but i know he is a very good reciever..Payne has stepped it up at the plate recently but he hasn't pitched in about 2 weeks...this could spell upset..

    sorry "O"

what i may do is walk the bases loaded and let Payne strike out the next 3 hitters... :laugh1:
