    Here is one for all you baseball rule buffs:

    (This actually happened in a HS game yesterday. And the umpire(Swanson) got it right!)

    Tie game, bottom of the 8th, runner on 3rd no outs.
    Next pitch to the batter hits the dirt, then the catchers mask, the goes in between his chest protecter and his chest.
    Catcher walks around looking for the ball, then pulls it out of his chest protecter.

    WHAT'S THE CALL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    Obstruction...runner gets one base. In this case, he scores!!!!

    rcbfan is correct. The ball is dead and the runner advances.

    When I read this I couldn't help but remember something similar happened in a game we played this year....it just didn't involve the catcher but it did involve a ball disappearing in a player's jersey.
    What happened was batter hit the ball to third base and when 3rdBman went to field the ball, somehow the ball got caught up in his jersey and he couldn't get it out in time to throw runner out. Home book scored it a hit....should it have been an error? Not a hard hit ball and he would have had plenty time to throw the runner out if it hadn't gotten tangled up in his jersey.
    Everyone was wondering where the ball went. Strange I must say.

    rcbbfan and 44Magnum are correct!

    DEAD BALL! Runners advance 1 base, and in this case, GAME OVER!

    Glad Coach Swanson was working the game. What an awesome umpire!
