    Here is a novel concept.
How about just hitting the ball hard, catching everything that comes your way - throwing it accurately and running like the wind - all the while - keeping your mouth shut and respecting the game and your opponents.

Maybe players should try to do that a bit more - you know - let their playing do the talking and acting like true athletes?

I know that concept is old school - but perhaps it has some value.

I agree guys and I'm not saying heckling and trash talking is right, but it is as old as baseball. I have seen coaches and players make this into an art form.

From the early days of Little League.. chanting "weinie arm..weinie arm...swings like a girl" to an "old school" coach trying to get into the head of the opposing teams pitcher. Some of the best heckling I have ever seen was from coaches like Don Zimmer and unnamed college coaches. A lot of that has stopped during the new era of coaching

Now, the new breed of players have taken it to another level....I don't know if it is a carryover from basketball where it seems to be acceptable, but I hate to see it in baseball.

I do know a young pitcher that loves to hear trashtalking...it keeps him focused and he seems to "step up" when challenged by his opponents.

I don't like it!!!....but I'm old school. The young guys of today seem to like it though

Itsinthegame, great post! I've always told my son and the kids I've coached to keep their mouths shut and let their play do the talking. If you can play the game people will know by your actions. Let the coach do the talking its his job. I've always said let the other team talk their trash, its fun to just smile at them while shaking their hand after you've kicked their butts. :xyzthumbs

One more thing. Some of the stuff would not get so far out of hand if the blue guys in the field will stop watching the dugout to see if someone has a toe outside the fence and would watch whats happening between those white lines that we play between. Some of it is that after something early starts, they don't step in and say something to both coaches and players to calm it back down.

As far as I am concerned, keep that mouth shut and get dirty. War is not fought over words but over a battle and its hard to fight when your running your mouth.

Most of the time it's just 1 or 2 players on a team that do all the trash talking. The good ole inside fastball seems to cure a lot of that.
