Have heard from many about our previews. I hear what you've said. That's all we could do this year, trust me, and we probably went too fast. That said, what are the best stories, human interest stories, team stories out there we can jump on?

I'm not sure we'll be covering a whole heckuva lot of games until April when NCAAs slow down, but we can hop on some biggies if they pop up. So why don't you all help me?

I'll try to stop by here from time to time, but please send me emails to [email protected]

    I'll definitely see those.

Fair enough ... By April, there should be some clear indications of who are the players/teams to watch this season.

Thanks for visiting LW...you da man!!

You are often criticized for lack of coverage in HS baseball, but you have always come on here to explain your paper's position and I appreciate you doing that. Many people did not realize you are not the city editor either.

Looking forward to seeing you at the games in April and I'm sure that you will get a big response from our members and guests on some timely stories. You are always welcomed here.

No problem Braves. I'll check in. And yeah, I guess I'm no longer the city editor. I am back into city coverage, though. During the 2002-2003 school year, we changed things. I went to cover Piedmont schools. I was asked back this year and was in a No. 2 role for coverage of football and back in my familiar role as lead writer during hoops season.

    Felt like home.

During spring, I will probably again be in a lead role, though I'm not sure, and I'm not sure how things will shake out moving towards the future. What I've been asked to do is a lot of high-impact feature stories and enterprise pieces about high school trends.

We are moving away from heavy amounts of game coverage because our research shows readers want more of the other. We will cover games, don't get me wrong, but I think -- as our studies show -- that readers would rather get a good feature on a great high school kid than South Meck's fifth regular season game against East Meck.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Yep....human interest stories are always the most interesting, but I don't mind reading how South Meck beat East Meck in the 5th game of the season....just kidding you Eagles' fans.

I hope you get the lead, Langston. In my opinion, you are the most plugged in writer of preps sports. To give you an example...I know you did not do the piece on baseball preview because there were too many inaccuracies. Bobby Northrup, great lefthanded hitter (he bats right)....Sean Snell, a terrific golfer (I'm sure he is, but he plays baseball for Charlotte Latin). Anyway, you get my drift. Again, thanks for stopping by and I hope we will be of some help to you this season

    Good Place for a story!

Langston: You may want to check out a practice at Vance High School some time. This is a school which has lost a lot of talented players due to the 2002 "Choice Plan". But the attitude and work ethic of the coaches and players is unbelievable. This is a team that could not field a JV squard and its varsity will take its lumps early in the win loss colum. By season's end the entire team will have improved its baseball skills and character due to their hard work and attitude. "Fear the Cougar". :applause:
