Per reports I've received, Indy hit the ball very well, but struggled a bit on the mound (but it's very early ... and windy).

South Meck crushed the ball .... as expected. South Meck pitched well, as expected.

Scores don't really matter, nor are they indicative, since multiple pitchers are being tried out, but the score was a little one-sided in favor of South Meck.

Ashbrook and Charlotte Christian played in the damp this evening. Ashbrook scored a few more runs than CC, led at the plate by Drew Martin's 2hr performance, a 2 run and a 3 run dinger. Most of the Ashbrook starters hit the ball well. Sammy Asis stole 4 bases (2 at 2nd and 2 at 3rd).

I'm not familiar with all of the CC players, but I think Reid Fronk was not there because of basketball and I heard a couple of other guys were out sick.

Ashbrook threw 5 pitchers. Wes McCall threw the first two innings, then Mike Bogaert threw two. The remaining pitchers threw one inning each. Mike Maples, Clay Gibson and Josh Duncan in that order.

CC hitter's were a little off at the plate, but took good swings throughout the scrimmage. I'm not sure of the pitchers, but Bard was the last to pitch and he seemed to bring the ball harder than the others.

You CC guys will have to help me out here with names and more details.

Ashbrook's field underwent some major renovations and held up very well under the misty/wet conditions. The infield was cut back into the outfield about three feet (still regulation) eliminating the "lip". There was also a new clay surface put over the entire infield, pitcher's mound, home plate area and basepaths. Again, eliminating all "lips" that had grown up over the past several years. There have been additional cosmetic changes to enhance the renovations that were begun last year.

Looking forward to seeing all of the TBR guys later in the season when the weather warms up and we roll out the grills!

yes, christian had about 4 key players not there, they didn't hit well until the end of the scrimmage. they seemed to be tight at the beginning but began to losen up towards the end. i think when they meet again, and everyones there it'll be a good game to watch.

A's clearly a stronger, more seasoned team up and down. Pitching was top tier for the A's while the A's starting offense handled what CC gave them.

CC hitting didn't handle A's #1 & #2 pitchers. But, CC had 3-4 sophs in the lineup at any given time. The sophs seemed to to hit (including a HR) the A's other pitchers late in the game. CC made a lot of errors and gave up a lot of walks.

The infield held up very well and the mound was in decent shape given conditions but there was quite a bit of slippin n sliding in the outfield.

Fronk and other basketballers will be back after this weekend, but even with them, CC has plenty of room to improve in order to compete with the likes of a very good A team. I am betting that the 4/7/04 game between A & CC (in Gastonia) will be a bit more interesting though.

North Meck scrimmaged Forestview tonight at Forestview for 9 innings.

The hitting was way off for both teams. North never could string together a series of hits. Forestview had 1 hit in the game .. a come-backer off the pitchers leg. NM played solid defensively the entire game, FV only had a couple of minor defensive lapses of no consequence.

It didn't help the hitters that the umpires strike zone should have been measured with a yard-stick and a telescope. The pitchers from both teams took full advantage. North used 5 pitchers, Forestview 4. It looked like the pitchers from both teams were on strict pitch counts.

Alexander Central scrimmaged West Iredell yesterday. Coach Comer played all 18 players. AC used 7 pitchers in 8 innings,I belive only giving up 1 hit 0 runs. AC hit the ball fair and I think scored 5 runs.

West Rowan / North Rowan Scrimmage

West scored in every inning, combining for 9 runs on 14 hits. Alex Hiatt and Winston Horton each had 2 hits and Brett Hatley hit a 2 run HR to lead the Falcons at the plate. Meanwhile, West pitchers, Chris McDaniel, Brian Aycoth, Craig Beasley, and Daniel Cauble held North to 2 runs on 4 hits in the 7 inning contest.

It was a cold, windy evening by games end and that may have had an effect on North's young pitchers who combined for 6 BBs and 4 WPs in the game. North's defense was stellar as they played errorless ball through out the contest. North was lead at the plate by Ross Mahaley, Ronnie King and Statesville HS transfer Todd Poole.
