Where will the radar guns be dancing this year? Daniel Bard drew between 10 and 25 guns to the game each time he took the mound. Is there another player in NC drawing that type of attention from pro scouts this season?

Any time a RHP breaks 90, it gets the pro's attention and there are probably a dozen senior RHP arms in the state who will be capable of doing that. The pro's will be playing attention to any LHP who is routinely throwing 87-88.

The pro's really heat up, like they did for Bard, when you can routinely break 94 (91 for LHP). I'm not sure we have any RHP pitcher in the state with that much consistent "pop" on his heater. Possibly the closest in terms of pure "arm-strength" would be Patrick Adams at West Rowan.

The guns will also follow Trice, High, Basham, Facchini and Adkins just to name a few, but the 20-25 guns/game like we saw last year may not happen this year. It will be closer to 2-3/game.

Judd and DeRatt (both at Green Hope) are tapping around 90 consistently now from what I have heard (but it was a Green Hope alum, he may of been feedin me a little BS since I am from Cary.)

Judd played legion ball with me in Cary and I can believe it. He was around 87 all last summer. I haven't seen DeRatt throw much, but he is a big strong kid.

Talk is that South Caldwell has a left handed Freshman that can throw mid 80's. I haven't seen him yet but I have been told he is pretty good and can throw hard plus has some good off speed stuff. Not what you would call a flame thrower yet but pretty good for a freshman lefty

The "Dance of the radar guns", that was alluded to in the first post, is normally for seniors. The MLB scouts will place a junior on their follow list, but they aren't going to take 2 years following him around with a radar gun.

Nick Conaway probably has the strongest arm in the '05 class. From every report, the guy can really bring it.

There is a 13 year old 8th grader in Hendersonville who will be attending West Henderson who I have clocked at 84 mph. (JUGS). No middle school ball up there, he plays for our travel team. (Lumber & Lightning 14U)

shhhhhhhhh, he's supposed to be a secret. I've known the kid since he was in the crib and he is already about 6'2". If he elects to concentrate on baseball he could be very special. The freshman and 8th grade groups that will be feeding WH in the next few years may be the best group the school has ever had.
