Tryouts are right around the corner. What do the coaches think is the or should be the routine on the first couple of days as well as when to make cuts and how many to keep? JV and Varsity?

I am not a fan of all the running, but it does make you a better athlete (which baseball needs) and it does seperate the guys who WANT to be a part of a TEAM and the guys who don't......

WHEN I coach one day, I am not going to run the guys to death but I am going to find out who wants to wear a uniform come spring time.

With the bad weather projected for the first part of the week, most schools may be restricted to the gym, running suicides and having the coaches review throwing motions and basic footwork. If you have access to an indoor batting cage, they can review basic technique from hitting off a tee.

If the bad weather holds, cuts may be delayed until after the first couple of scrimmage games. First round cuts could be made earlier based on overall athleticism and "who wants to be there".

That's why the pre-season work that the players do on their own is so important. If you come to a weather-shortened tryout out of condition and with you're arm out of shape, you are showing that you don't respect the coach or the game. That was fine for LL and rec ball. It's not anymore.

Though many may disagree I am a huge fan of a lot of running and conditioning, It always pays off in those one or two games a year that goes 9 innings. Also if you get into a hight scoring contest, it always seems the better conditioned teams come out on top in the end. Especially for the catchers. When the 7th inning rolls around, that catcher still has to gun those guys down on the bases and hustle after those past balls and wild pitches just as quickly as he did in the 1st inning.
