I know most of the guys don't sign until the November signing period, but there is a lot of contact going on now .....

Has anyone signed early? Who's going where?

NC, because there always seems to be a lot of confusion around the terms "signings" and "commitments," I thought I might waiver a bit from your thread's topic and mention a few of the specifics:

    (1) No D1 or D2 baseball player can sign anything that commits him until the "early signing period," which runs for a week each early November during his senior year in high school. It's during that period that the player may sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI), which formally commits him may to play at that school in return for some amount of athletic scholarship (also frequently referred to as a "grant-in-aid"). If no athletic money is received by the player (i.e. "invited" walk-ons), there's no reason to sign an NLI.

    (2) A "verbal commitment" may be made to a program anytime, but the only BINDING arrangement is made when an NLI is signed.

    (3) If a player doesn't sign during the "early signing period," he must wait until the following April 1st, when a lengthier signing period begins. It runs until the following August. Many players make verbal commitments between the "early signing period" and April 1st. They then follow up with a signed NLI on April 1st.

    (4) The junior colleges have a separate NLI process, which carries its own schedule.

    Ok .... re-phrased ....

Has anyone heard about any "Summer Signings" from the 2003 graduating class or have they heard about any verbal commitments from the '04's ?????
