I don't know what team is being talked abour here and maybe you do BUT i do know a 14U team from my area who has 3 freshman on the team that play varsity ball and in no way are they on "Trophy Hunts". Like what was said in another post they are from a school that couldn't field a JV team and it's good for them to play as much as possible.

If a kid wants to play up that is their choice, but we shouldn't knock a kid just because she wants to play in her correct age bracket. Not all kids are playing to get a college scholarship. Some are playing because they love to play and probably rather play with girls their own age. If the girl is eligible to play 14U and that is where she wants to play for whatever reason then that is her choice. Although I'm sure that the parents appreciate the opinion of messageboard participants on what is best for their daughter, it really shouldn't be anyone's concern but the girl and her parents.

There's a possibility that certain players are playing down for the simple fact that 16/18/Highschool hasn't really kick off yet. Beats sitting at home doing nothing.:smiley2:

I think I know the tourney you're talking about and the winning team does have some 8th graders or so I've heard.

The 2nd place team played a heck of a game but in the end just didn't have the steam. However, those girls didn't look at the winning team as trophy hunters for the most part. They were just another good team that made them step up their own game a notch.

    I say, let them play.

    :(

What about the kids that are playing against thses so called high school players doesn't it make the other team better playing a little better competition.I get tired of hearing people complain and think every thing should be given to them like trophies!!!What happened to working hard and earning it!!!!!If it is fall of a move up year from 12u and up the team needs to move on and get prepared for the next level and it also would depend on the talent level of that team.Let the kids play and parents quit crying!!

Whats wrong with ''trophy hunting". When I played our goal was to win everything we played in. I had rather see a team go out to win it all every time than see the ones just there to play and be "seen" then not even finish the tournament by not playing in the championship because it was to hot or they were to tired. Always finish what you start

I guess I need to define what I mean by "trophy hunting". I am referring to intentionally and consistantly identifying and entering tournaments against inferior opponents just so you can win a trophy. This has nothing to do with competing, playing your heart out to win, and never giving up.

Don't cry about what other teams do as long as it is within the rules. Use it as a motivational tool, "ladies you just beat a team that has high school players on it". Consider it good for your team if you play 14U teams that have varsity players, although just because they may be on the varsity team doesn't mean they see playing time. It will only make your team better and what the other team does is their business.

I agree with what you are saying however I think you may have missed my point. I was wondering what benefit the players get from playing in a less competitive atmosphere then if they played vs other HS kids that's all, Im not saying it is wrong or right.
One if not both are starters on a team that is ranked in the top half of the Observer sweet 16

My feeling is that to get better you need to play better competition and I was wondering how others feel about it.
    Please keep the comments coming.
