quote=gridfaniker;2524640]Based loaded, runners on first, second and third, no outs. Count is two balls and one strike. Coach in the dugout signals for the batter, a left-handed hitter, to hit a high chopper just over the reach of the second baseman and into right-center field. The next pitch is low and away so the batter takes the pitch. The next one is belt high and on the outside corner. The batter swings with a downward motion in an attempt to hit the high bouncer his coach asked for, but because it was outside, he wasn't able to pull it to the right side. Instead, the ball bounces over the shortstop's head and into left-center. Two runs score. The coach is incensed that the batter hit it to the wrong side of the diamond and attacks him with a fungo bat.

I'll wait for your answers and in July I'll let you know what the umpire ruled. All I can say is you won't believe it.[/quote]

Ok. Um I take it that this is a true story, as it is hard, very hard to believe that a coach would do that. Go after a kid with a fungo bat?? Kidding me right?

I think any good coach, and student of the game, would know what occured at the plate.

The only call after that "fungo" incident would, IMO, be to eject that coach, call the police, and insure that he didnt have the privaledge of coaching again.

The calls that the "Umps" made afterword, to me, where important to get right. However, I asure you, that if you chase after my son with a fungo, I have one in the trunk of my car I will chase you down with.

    Just saying.

ummm...Gridfaniker's once a year visit to preps is always done with tongue in cheek. His story of one of his kid's "turtle arms" and the flipper pitch he developed is classic!
