Had an interesting article in our local newspaper regarding improved quality of softball in our area. I thought it was interesting the high school coaches credited it to greater involvement of the girls in travel programs. They even went so far as to credit the various travel programs with improved community relations in our area.

    Not so fast

Not all coaches dislike the travel ballers. I would love to have more on my team. Hopefully more travel programs will pick up and some of my players will participate. As a coach of a high school team, I will be the first to thank all the travel ball coaches for their commitments to the young ladies, because that is what its all about. I am still not sure what all the fuss is about over Travel Ball vs. High School ball. The conversation should just be about the GIRLS playing ball.
    Anyways just my 2 cents

We encourage our HS players to try out for TB; or rec ball if they can't make a TB team. TB is the quickest route to skill development. The better HS teams are usually loaded with TB players. Of course, most all of the TB teams are loaded with HS players.

Some of the problems arise when a coach forbids players from participating in games. This can come from HS or TB. I believe the easy solution for that problem is to give the players the freedom to decide for themselves.

Do you have a link to that article?

    Tb vs hs

in the article all area high school coaches agreed that talent has much improved over the last couple years.

Only one hs coach was interviewed and included in the article the other two are coaches who also have outstanding talent and where excluded from the article.

    why?

Other than self gratitude why does it matter who came first. Trust me the player knows who got them to where they are; isn't that all that matters?
