Before searching the web I thought I'd post a new thread and see what kind of results I get.

For the last 3years, all my girls(from TB and middle schools) have attend the USC-UPSTATE SOFTBALL SUMMER CAMP and has BENEFITTED GREATLY from Coach Hawkins and his staff. He holds a tremedous and knowledgeable camp. However , my girls have been playing TB for atleast 3years(some 4years). While last year's summer camp was in progress , I made several visit(I'm always looking for new ideas) and I couldn't help to notice that the majority of my girls were boried . It's not that USC-UPSTATE holds a bad camp because ONCE again , Coach Hawkins and crew holds a tremedous camp! The problem is basically the "advanced" girls are mixed with the "beginners". So my question is "What college(s) offers the best ADVANCED summer softball camp"?

Heard Great Things About Carolina's Camps

I know of some TB players from Davie and Davidson Co's who go to the UNC advanced and Team Camps. The parents and players have always had very good things to say about how well the camp was run and the instruction.

    Here is the UNC brochure.

I believe the Carolina camps are coached my multiple college coaches and college players. The highlight for me is the competition between "teams" the final days of the camp.

Donna Papa and Beverly Smith are awesome.

Another feature that impresses me is the invitation to coaches to watch some of the clinics at no charge. I've learned a few things just watching.

The camps are worth every penny. They fill up fast.

Have been to a few camps over the last couple of years and can comment on a couple of things I've noticed. Camper to coach ratio is key, not camper to college player ratio, only UTenn and NCST had coaches from other colleges that actually ran the drills and instructed, which gives campers oppurtunities to meet said coaches and coaches to meet campers. UNC was very well run and kept campers busy at all times but the stations were run by the players with the exception of the hitting video station. UT had the best camp for the money IMO and while the girls were out working on the field the Head Coach talked to us about the recruiting process and what they were looking for in a player and took questions after for about 1hr, the coaches were very visable during the camp as they did not instruct in any area, they were watching the campers and talking to parents on occasion.

    camps

My DD has been to 4 camps at UNC. 2 fall and 2 winter. Yes, UNC players did more of the station drills and even did more work one on one at times with the girls. But this past winter camp and maybe it was because less campers were there. All coaches and players were more into the drills and campers this time. I noticed in the fielding and throwing that Coach Papa would be watching and talking to a lot of the kids and making sure arms and feet were in correct location. That means a lot to the kids that the Head Coach and players also would take time to correct and also speak to them about what they are doing in a positive way. I asked my DD about that, after camp was over. She said that Coach Breneman even remembered her name from past camps. My DD was beaming and is still trying to remember the things she learned. The camps are a lot reputicous and will become in-grained in the minds of the girls. My DD will take the word of a UNC player when told to do something. Even when its the same thing I've been telling her sense she was in Tee Ball........ go figure..

One of the Carolina camps I saw this past season had a number of coaches from colleges other than UNC assisting with instruction. They were there as instructors--not recruiters. Since UNC offers a variety of camps/clinics they probably have various formats for the camps/clinics.

    GC NIKE CAMP

Greensboro College always hosts a Nike Summer Camp. It is a great camp for all ages. All of the girls enjoy it. There are activities each day after ball or each night, scrimmages, learn new skills, and a lot more. VERY FUN :)
