This game softball is it your love or are you on an ego trip trying to get popular, and known ?? I can truly say that I LOVE this game ,and have a compassion for it,and the purpose behind it !! As crazy as it may seem, and I know a few of you might think I've lost it because I drive 100 miles to be with a group of kids that want to learn the game ,and further their goals to play the next level, but I really don't care as long as my kids show up I'll be there !!

    love it also

I hear you Guru. I use and see this crazy hard game as a teaching tool for my girls also. Building relationships with other kids and adults, respect for others. Its the same in the work place, home, church. This mission can be accomplished and if the girls just happen to learn to play the game very well even better. Yeah, get up 2 hrs early and go to work, so to leave early and drive 2 or 3 hrs just to watch a 1 hr ball game and that's with $4.00 gas. It works the same way I guess if my girls wanted to play PUTT PUTT or be on the debate team at school. We will do what ever we can to help them grow......... I don't think Tyler Hansbrough dad has missed a BB game his son has played in, in 4 yrs. And that's what kids look for. Positive support from family and coaches. Keep it up Guru....... There are others with you.

i think that in the beginning, we all come to this game to teach our daughters softball, athletics, competition and how to build friendships. probably something our parents taught us in different way in our pasts. some do, as guru points out, continue it for fame or finance, some continue for the love of the game.

last week i asked myself why i am still coaching, as my dd aged out three years ago. i'm doing this because i love the game, love to teach and love to now coach with my dd. but this is her last year, as the senior year in college is pretty tough for a nurse. this is my last year, as i am aging out also. (no smart comments there guru).

i once had a member (highly respected here) sum travel ball up as birth control???????? think about that one.............

    Exactly

There was study that showed that girls that played competitive sports are less likely to have Promiscuous Sex !! I didn't say 100% fool proof, but they are just too busy for boys !!

    It's in my blood!

I was a jock from the day I can remember. I started playing baseball as a young girl with the guys in the neighborhood. Picked up the game of fastpitch in high school and fell in love. Played college and Women's Class A as long as I could, then I took some time away from the game to have two boys and raise them into fine young men. Now I am back in the game, coaching, teaching and loving every minute of it. I do not have a daughter to coach, but consider everyone of these young ladies a part of my female jock family. It wasn't always easy being a female athlete, but I weathered the storm and hope to be a good role model for these young ladies to look up to.
I have a full time job, but take vacation and work through lunches so I can keep doing what I love....throw and hit the ball around with a great bunch of young female athletes like myself....just much younger.

What a great post! With an attitude like that, I have a daughter you can adopt. Its people like you who give of themselves to make it better for everyone.

    love of the game

I, like most of us, got into this game when my DD was 5 years old. I started coaching and learned all I could about this game. Having played baseball growing up, I loved that game with a passion. Baseball was my favorite until fastpitch softball came along. I have coached rec, travel and now HS. Even though my DD is in her Soph. year in college and playing down on "PEACE" Street, I am still at the HS. Some people that don't know me ask why I still do it without having a DD on the team, And I explain about the passion and love of the game and the life lessons that it teaches and the relationships that it develops. Those that know me well, don't have to ask. My only hope is that I have been a good coach that has a good understanding of the game and all that it involves and that maybe I have been able to teach these girls the game and have been able to make them better and that I have had some kind of positive influence in thier lives. When all is said and done and I have retired from coaching and my DD has finished her career, you can still find me at a ballfield somewhere watching young girls play thier hearts out for the love of the game.
