Brevard College got the season off to a good start by sweeping 3 games from Ohio Valley, 7-1, 3-0, 14-6. Last year Ohio Valley swept Brevard so we hope that is a sign of more good things to come.

The Tornado pitching was good and the hitting was timely. The most impressive thing was that the defense did not commit an error until the 9th inning of the last game. A great start for the defense.

WP's were Ryan Toney - 1 ER, Seth Laughter - 1 hit shutout, and Shane Galloway 2 ER. Shane is also on the Basketball team and had been on a road trip returning to school around 2 am Sunday morning and taking the mound at 1 pm. Oh to be young!!

Leading hitters were Matthew Pruit 6-10, 3 doubles, 4 rbi; Bryce Warner 4-11, triple 2 doubles; Stephen Mullis 4-8, HR, triple, Jackie Corn HR, Will Scholer HR.

Brevard has a double header Wednesday at home.

    Matthew Pruitt

Speaking of playing time. Matthew Pruitt had not played a game in 2 years. He redshirted last year at WCU recovering from cancer treatments. He played his senior season at West Henderson High while taking the treatments. His body was worn out by the summer. While at WCU all he did was throw some. I don't know all the details about his daily rutine then but I don't think he was swinging a bat at all. This summer with the Redbirds I think he just pitched but I'm not sure. Then he comes out the 1st weekend and just goes 6-10 and he hit it hard too. My son says Matthew is just mashing the ball in BP.

A whole lot of prayers have gone up for Matthew and once again God came through big. I hope and pray his health continues and his bat stays hot. It is hard not to pull for this kid.
