Another Reason to Play High School Ball, Bonding.

I've been reading this post for a few days about the positive and negative things about playing high school softball (sports). Here is another reason for.

Early tuesday morning ,2 AM, there was an accident on I-77 just north of exit 33 and the driver of the car was killed. That young man's name is Chris Bivins, 21 years old from Huntersville and a Hopewell Grad ('05 I believe). A very sad funeral that filled the parking lot and surrounding grassy areas of the funeral home.

He left two younger sisters, Tamara '08 grad and Brittany '11, both softball players. While in line to pay my respects to the family along with classmates, teachers, coaches and many others, I saw girls from '07 and "08 graduating classes and former teammates of Tamara's when she played for the Lady Titan softball team. They came from colleges throughout the state to be by her side in a time of need, putting studies and training aside. Teammates and friends with a common bond of both high school and high school softball. You can't teach that.

On a more serious note, PLEASE BUCKLE UP WHEN DRIVING and while driving fast seems to be fun, remember, SPEED KILLS!!!

hs softball......my dd has been in college for three years now. she still keeps in contact with her fellow ball players from hs on a weekly basis, none of them going to her college. it probably totals about 14 girls and they see each other often. she only has contact with two of the girls from travel ball, both of which she has know for 10+ years. of the 14 girls from hs, three of them are from different schools, yet the bond was made during hs and it remains today. it seems that a different bond is made in hs where you see your friends everyday, than tb where you see your friends during the summer and only on the weekends.

Foks for over twenty years I spent my career fixing problems with other people kids. I spend a good bit of time now trying to keep college kids from killing themselves and each other. Braves you hit it on the head. My oldest girl will be leaving for college in the next few years. It scares me to death. She always tells me to trust her. That time on the ball field, church, camping or whatever building the relationship and ideas for what you believe is the right way to live your life is important. My family unlike some other places choose a ballfiled for some of my kids. I have others kids who do it other places. Hopefully they not out parting and killing themselves.

yesterday reminded me of why i coach hs ball. we only had seven show up, which i love, it means putting on the gloves and stretching some arms out. i sat back and looked at all seven girls, two freshmen, two soph's and three juniors. the freshmen were excited, unsure of what to expect and had that attitude of "let me show you what i've got" about them. one of them was a gem, rough, but talented with a cannon for an arm. the other four soph's and juniors were excited, happy to start and couldnt wait to show us coaches what they had learned during the summer and telling us how much of a better team we would have this year because 11 of them had played summer ball (i'm shocked that they actually listened at all). three hours of this and they didnt want to stop, actually asked for the lights to be turned on....havent seen that in three years. i loved it when the juniors (who can both crush the ball) took over at the tee's and started teaching the freshmen how to do the drills....not one complaint, not one "i gotta go", just seven young ladies having fun, sweating, getting dirty and enjoying the friendships with players and coaches alike.
