we seem to have this discussion two or three times a year. most of the umps will not call the crow hop/replant violation due to the way the rule is written. it can be interpited a butt load of different ways. some umps dont want to call it because the girls have been allowed to throw that way for so long????? i call them out on that response, because its up to them to enforce the way the game was meant to be played.

marlinfan, you're so right, if you know your dd is throwing illegal, stop her yourself, dont wait for some ballsey ump to put the smack down on her illegal pitching. you really need to take it further and look at the pitching instructor your dd is going too.....are they teaching her to crow hop/replant and using the excuse: "its ok, no one calls it anyway!" if thats so, find another instructor and save your daughter the trouble of relearning how to throw legal. i wish i had.....i know of a family who paid an "instructor" a small fortune to teach their dd how to pitch. the girl crowhopped so bad, she never threw a legal pitch in hs jv ball, not one!!!!!!! i had to pull her from the game after a few pitches....ya need to stop it where it begins....

What do you mean by holding umps accountable? If we held every bad call accountable then we'd be doing alot of playing w/ out umps. With the way umps are treated by coaches and parents i don't think you could pay me enough to ump at whatever league, and i've got pretty thick skin. I'm w/ Micweiser here. Adjust to the ump and teach your kids how to also.
Also the "crow hop" is a misnomer, it's actually a skip or a leap and actually hurts a pitchers speed. Couldn't wait for someone to call it on my dd so she WOULD correct it and thanks to the parent who so brazenly pointed it out to the ump. Picked up 3 mph the next pitch. lol :beatdeadhorse5:
The replant however is a whole 'nother discussion.

Call it what you want: crow hops, replants, whatever. All are incorrect pitching mechanics that I see on a weekly basis at various tournaments. A major problem I see right now is that umpires are told by T.D.'s to not call such things. I would like to see T.D.'s step up and make these calls. Improve mechanics so Gold level and college coaches don't have to. If I see it on my team, I try to make the corrections. If other coaches don't, umpires need to make the illegal pitch call during GAME PLAY.

    inconsistent

aint worried about a crow hopping pitcher, its the crow hopping umps ,inconsistent pitch calling we adjusted on some but just seem like it was worst this year.if rule book says it hear to there then do best to call that, dont make up your own strike zone. nc was better sc even if some called in both.
