Was anybody else surprised that Maddon didn't pinch hit for Howell with a runner on base? I thought it was the reason he didn't bring in Price earlier; because he was scheduled to bat that inning.

I dunno, but I would think you would want to go with the higher percentages of success:

    - pinch hitter for the pitcher
    - your best reliever who could throw you a lot of innings

If I'm going to a gunfight, I don't want to leave my best guns at home.

    more issues.....

What about the base running mistake? Was the 3rd base coach waving him around? 3rd out of an inning at the plate is always bad.

Certainly looks bad in hindsight. Now Braves, keep in mind, I was somewhat nodding off at the time, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Howell executed the SAC bunt and whoever that was that hit the ball Utley fielded, at a minimum, First and third w/ 2out and the 2 hitter coming to the dish. At a maximum, Utley either doesn't throw home or runner beats throw and Rays go up 1.
Another big play was Upton grounding into an (another) inning ending DP. I want to say the bases were loaded but as I said, I was groggy. Thought BJ did hustle down the line this tie and I thought there was a chance he beat the rap but FOX did not show enough replays to stir the pot. Ump called him out ...so he was out. Your thoughts?

Yes, he was waving him and if the runner had not slowed down, he would have beaten the play at home...or it certainly would have been a bang-bang play.

The Howell bunt, although certainly was successful, I'm thinking I'm bringing in Price no matter what, so I'll give myself a better option with a proven hitter (I may still bunt, but I may go yard, too.)

My thoughts on Upton? I believe he read TBR :satana: If he goes all out every time, it raises his game to a new level.

By the way, Burrell didn't hustle on his double. He should have been on 3rd...standing up.

I thought they were going to have to install the merry-go round bases for Burrell. I have watched him run this post season ( a few times) It is painful to watch. He gives new meaning to the word "slow" The only way he could have made it to third would be if he had a jet-pak attached to his back and skates on his feet. I will probaly reach retirement before he runs out a triple.

Yeah, Randy's kind of proud of that pic. I think he has it framed on his wall at the office.
