I have found out that somtimes it's better to let somebody else coach your daughter if she is going to finish the course !! What are your thoughts on this subject !!

I believe it all depends on the the relationship between the father and the daughter and if the father can treat his kid like the rest of the team. Some people can do it and others cannot do it. I have heard that some college coaches might prefer a kid not play for their father at the older ages. No coach has ever told me this, but I have heard it from other people. I have had many coaches tell me it doesn't matter to them as long as the player/coach relationship is a good one. Most kids that I know that played for their fathers and wanted to play college softball did just that...they played college softball. I would suggest that if a college coach where your DD wanted to go told you they prefer your DD to play with someone else that you either step down as coach or let her go to another team.

    I'm not surprised

I asked my DD and she chose the option with me on the outside of the fence. I have to agree with her, she has improved at a rate that is much faster than I have seen before in the last year. I have turned my attention to be just her personal hitting coach at the batting cage. I hope i never have to give up that role because that is time we get to spend together.

    Personal Decision

I believe that is a personal decision that must be made between the parent and the daughter. And not a decision to be taken lightly.

But I will offer this advice: If you would not allow another coach to treat your daughter the way you do, then you shouldn't be treating her that way, either.

I would also recommend that she address you as coach while on the field and that parents and daughter(s) understand there is a separation between game life and home life.

    Its time to step back

Once your child hits the fourteen year mark, it is time for parents to step back and let others do the coaching, and also let the child find her own way.
From the time my children finished little league, I stepped aside and let other do the coaching, now mind you I am not saying it is easy......

    Let her learn from others

I've never counted the number of coaches my daughter has played for but I suspect its two to three dozen. That includes rec ball, school ball and travel ball. I stepped aside after 12U rec ball and never regretted it. Of course my DD is a pitcher so I think that's a bit different. I never stopped putting in 'bucket time' and, even now, work with her on some things. I do think she's learned a great a deal from the process. I have seen some kids who played only for Dad have problems when he was no longer in the dugout but lots of kids have trouble adjusting to college.

    I feel it's best

for someone other than Dad or Mom to coach them after 10 or 12 but for Dad or Mom to continue to work with them on a daily basis for as long as the child has the desire. Just like a teacher works with them in school and Mom and Dad work with them on their homework. That is until my daughter entered 4th grade and I couldn't do her homework anymore!
