I don't think 40 mph is that rare at that age. My 8 year old is tiny and he throws almost that hard. When I 1st read this in the paper I thought they were going to say he was throwing 60 mph or something. 40mph? You have got to be kidding me. When my oldest was playing 9 year old Babe Ruth we had a kid throwing near 50 by the end of the year. I'm not so sure it wasn't when they were playing 8 year old all stars. I think the kid was clocked at 49 when he was 8. But that was about 11 years ago so its hard to remember. Hi s name is Mathew Pruitt for some that might remember the Henderson County all stars way back then.

The league should allow any parent who thinks the kid throws too hard to opt their kid out of hitting off the flame throwing 40 mph stud. Whenever little Johnny comes to the plate, his mother can come out of the stands and put the ball on the tee and let little Johnny use the tee for that at bat. Mom and Dad would have to do more than send complaining emails or make post game phone calls and have to step up and tell the world they do not want their kid to compete. What difference does it make who wins or if the kid gets a hit, they probably do not have all stars and everyone gets a trophy.

Politics in baseball????? You are kidding? It is there from teeball to high school. Until coaches start making a living at it. Politics have and will play a role. IMO I think they should also ban the leader in Home runs, RBI's stolen bases, the tallest kid, the most doubles, extra base hits, best OB%, highest BA and any other kid that leads in any major stats. Fair is fair.....

One of my former players who now plays in college had something like this happen to him. When he was about 13, he decided to play in a rec league just one year to be with his friends from school. He was intentionally walked EVERY at bat that season when an attempt to have him banned from the league failed. His dad would not allow him to quit because of the lesson that would teach him...that quitting is an option when things don;t seem fair. The funny thing, though, is that the same dads who complained all year couldn't believe it when the kid they walked every AB turned them down for All-Stars!

Sorry Braves, I beat you to him, in fact I offered him a better package than Coach27 and F3 could, so he will play for me...

F3- You still owe me the "player to be named later"... call me sometime.
