it is being discussed about the possibility of future tournaments being put on by the crowd at TBR for both baseball and softball. These might be showcase or bracket type tournaments, whatever seems more appropriate. We would like to start a little discussion about what type everyone would want, ya know, pool play vs bracket play, game guarantee, location, cost (come on, aint nothing free), time limit on pool play, you know, the type of things that we want to see and those that we dont care for. we know that we can attract many college coaches through our various contacts, but what do you want to see in this type of tournament....

    thanks in advance

1 hour and 20 minutes seems to be a pretty good time limit. We played at least 2 7 inning games this week end in that timeframe. If you went to 1 hour and 30 minutes most games would probably go 7 innings. I have often thought about instead of a time limit just play 5 complete innings.

PS..it would be nice to play some 18U ball in NC..say Raleigh or Burlington. At the rate I am going I should probably buy a condo in Rock Hill or Florence. Hey, I am not knocking those venues...I would just like to play some in Central NC.

    Great idea!

I think we should wait for CardCoach2 to weigh in. Based on the last couple of Cardinals tournaments I have been to, he has got this process down to a science and knows what draws teams to tournaments.

I would also recommend that we include the 23U (I hope I got that right) so fishman, wndmillr, and all of the ladies that have aged out of 18 can attend.

In any event, let me know what I can do to help.

Sounds like a good idea... maybe a couple scholarships could be granted with the proceeds.. or where you planning on keepin all the jingle yourself. :D

1:20 minute drop dead games in pool play. 4-5 games in pool, top 2-3 teams in each pool advance to single elimination 1:20 minute finish the inning tournament.(or maybe all of them). 3 full days.

1:30 minute time in all games pool and bracket
5 game guarantee 3 pool and double elimination
Finish all games this isn't soccer real sports never end in a tie my biggest grip about showcase
do 3 tournaments 1 in Charlotte or Salisbury area, 1 in the Morganton-Marion area and 1 in the Winston-Greensboro area
Do one in July while some of the other World series event sre going on to give local teams who don't want to travel to the World Series games somewhere to play in July

    Great Idea...

I think the idea of including the 23U teams is a GREAT IDEA also increases the MuLa as well as the interest in attending! It also allows the younger players a chance to see the Older girls in action. That gets my vote as best idea of the month so far!
Also, I think the 1:20 time limit is also good!
Maybe the teams can play in order to age limit as the day goes on (such as something like (6:00 pm Friday night 10U & 12U, 7:30 pm 14U &16U, 9:00 pm 18U & 23U then Saturday 10:00 am all 10U games start, 2:00 pm the 12U, 6:00 pm 14U & 16U, 10:00 pm 18U & 23U), this gives each age group the ability to see the other age groups play!
Maybe you could do several qualifier tournaments (East/West/North/South) the top 5 placers in each region, go to Central Location to have a Playoff Tournament! They can be done in the fall so that everyone, each team, has more open time to compete.
I also like the idea of the proceeds going to a scholarship fund! Might even have a donation box, where people could donate more to this cause if they wish to!
