I can fully understand why some folks are a little gun shy having parents help but I have to ask this question...

How did most of the current coaches get started in the first place? I know MANY that started simply because a rec team their kid was on needed a coach or a school/TB team needed some help. We have also had several threads on this board that stated all sports would be in a world of hurt if parents didn't step up and help out so why not in this case?

If you have parents whose DD have graduated they would be the best bet for helping. They wouldn't have the burden of trying to be fair (usually at their own kid's expense) and the knowledge that they have gained over the years is a lot more than they realize.

The bookstores are loaded with softball/baseball books. Videos are another great source. Hang around some of the places like Grand Slam where they give softball/baseball lessons. Baseball coaches are a real good source, also. There's not a lot of difference between the two sports--skill wise, that is.

Heed the advice of a previous post: Be courteous to parents; but don't fool yourself about being friends. Not true in most cases but it only takes one to really mess with your motivation to help!

Do it for the kids; there's not much that feels more rewarding than seeing them having fun!

Support and help your head coach or stay away from her/his team!

    Naa....

Monroe will be in the same conference as Piedmont next year as PHS moves down to 2-A.

I appreciate the nice words from Cheeze and bothsportsdad...your checks are in the mail:59:....I agree that it has to be a complete change mentally to play softball at Monroe. Great school for football, girls and boys basketball, and wrestling. Most of the better athletes go to Monroe and Pop's school, Forest Hills.

The Monroe kids play AAU hoops in the summer, not travel ball. PHS has many travel softball players which translates to success and a trip to the state tourney each year for Piedmont.

    Practice....

If you would like and can get some of your kids together this summer, would be happy to run practice with our travel team on Sunday's and show them things to work on through the fall.

Just PM me and let me know if you are interested. At the end of the day, think it was SBFreak who said it, its about the kids....

    Serious Advice !!!

Coach get back to the fundamentals, use a lot of T-work, I always find when my daughter's swing is off we always go back to T-work. Sometimes muscle memory has to be reminded !!!

    Agreed !!!

To be successful in any sport, you need to put a lot of time into the training.... remember no train, no gain, or something like that !!!:REDanceBanana001:
