I am taking on a monumental task next spring, one that needs to start now. I am going to be coaching the girls softball @ Monroe High ( i know, i know), and we will need alot of work, pitching, hitting, catching.....any advice. The group of girls (bless their hearts and mine) really do try, but they do not pick up the sport until high school.........camps? coaches? volunteers?

    thanks
    Alvarez

interesting....well, summer is here, get all that you can to play some form of softball during the summer, preferably travel ball, but rec ball is better than sitting around.

pitching - get them to find a good coach in your area, maybe at the local college - wingate?????

practice your infield weekly/bi-weekly and remember to adhere to the no more than eight rule to stay legal.

and just to be curious, why the name yhatemetoo??? dont ya know that everyone loves a coach???? lol

    welcome to this board rocks.

    Parents?

I would suspect some of the parents would love to help. You can teach them how you want it done and then they can work with the girls...

    stand firm

I would suspect that you have or can have a couple of asst. coaches use them. Be firm and you will be fine. I agree that some summer ball is the way to go, also fall travel goes till late fall. Playing late in the fall with some very structured winter workouts will set you up good for the upcoming year. Good luck!!

    Agreed but...

Sounds like a lot of help is needed to get it headed in the right direction. I am not talking about buddying up with them, just recruiting them to help so the girls on the team get a better ratio of coach/parent. Would also have to make sure parent doesn't help with their own DD.

Racing Cars: If I went to Charlotte to...

....race with the big dogs, I'd like to think that I had a good chance of staying alive. At 47, ( I hear folks say I look 30 ) I've driven 31 yrs. That experience doesn't make me capable of going 200 mph with Jr. So, what the fishman is getting at is this, in the car gig, I'd like to learn as much as I could from the Jr.s , Gordons, Stewarts,.....you know what I mean. Maybe you could hook up with a TB group in your area and get a feel for what goes on those teams. Don't just stick with say the 18u, go to 16s, and 14s and 12s. See how runs can be produced playing small ball, etc. As for the parents, well lets face facts, can't live with us, can't live without us! I give you props for stepping up my friend! We need more folks like you! Marlin
