    upset??

lot of HC folks on TBR. What happened vs. SA? I know HC was likely expecting a further playoff advance.

    No upset....

....here East. i'd say that HC and SA are fairly evenly matched. SA has stronger pitching, but HCs pitching was fine. Both HC and SA have kids who have played year round (TB) ball for a while now. SA got on board early, and in I think the 4th inning, SA got a break here and there, a walk, error, a blooper into left, and then Simone took a 3-2 count pitch 220! HC came back and had the bases loaded, got one run, then Simone picked up a nice hit ball up the middle and threw home to get the HC runner out. HC played a very good game. But so did SA, and today the better team won. I call it like I see it.

Everyone knows about McDowell and their Wildcard run but how about some of the other "cinderella" stories. Almost as big as the AC upset in my book was SW Guilford over Fred T. Foard. Or how about in 4-A #3 seed Apex, in 2-A #3 seed Ashe or #4 East Duplin or another WC Northside in 1-A. Come on guys, give these guys the publicity they deserve too.

Apex may be a #3 seed but they come from a strong conference. They have Middle Creek and Fuquay above them. All three of those teams are strong!

Wake Forest has a strong team also but their conference includes a lot of Raleigh city schools. I feel for sure that if Wake Forest had had stronger competition during the season we would have seen the talent they've got blossom!

Unfortunately, Raleigh city schools don't have very good softball programs that help like the outlying cities do. For example, right now the city programs are hot in their slow pitch season. But this will be good for them when they get much older so they can play on some of the adult leagues. I believe they still have fastpitch in the fall so at least there is still enough interest and skill to at least field a team. But even that isn't true when you try to have jv programs. This could easily be fixed. Raleigh Parks and Rec could really benefit the kids and our sport.

Apex and Wake Forest played one complete inning Friday before rain postponed the game. Apex was leading 2-0. They resumed at 5 pm Saturday. Apex won 8-1. The Apex pitcher hit a grand Slam.
