NC Kids Lead Way for UNCP

    Led by 19 North Carolina players, the UNC Pembroke Braves won their first Peach Belt Conference title in softball last week. UNCP finished the regular season at 43-10 and 17-1 in the conference. The Braves were headlined by 4 All-Conference performers, including senior Brittany Berrier (OF, North Davidson High School), sophomore Jelena Shaw (3B, South View High School), and freshmen Courtney Hill (SS, JH Rose High School) and Martika Elmore (P, Pine Forest High School). Martika Elmore was named Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year after going 21-3 and 9-0 in the conference.

    After finishing the year at 44-12, the Braves now await the call from the NCAA as to where they will stand in the South Atlantic Region. Prior to this weekend's conference tournament, the Braves were the #1 ranked team in the South Atlantic region. The final ranking for the South Atlantic Region will be released on Wednesday, April 23rd by the NCAA.

    Nice job Steve! Glad you saw the talent in NC and took advantage of same. U truly had the kids ready to play every game.
