You never here anything on here about Duke baseball. Don't ever hear much about anyone signing with them. Anyone here know anything about the program? I can read their website and have but what's the word on the program? Just curious why they never come up. No real personal interest. Just curious what all the baseball guys here know about the program. You just never hear about them.

    well...

i guess the obvious response is, its dook. who cares?

but honestly my guess it just costs too much. private school so our nc kids don't get the instate discount. d1 baseball programs just can't offer many if any full scholarships. so they have to look for kids who can play and can afford to go there.

    just my conjecture

    Duke Baseball Program

My son was recruited by Duke. I had the absolute pleasure to get to know the coaches and they are first class in every way. They carry a small roster around 26. Coach McNally's philosophy is carry a small roster and develop your players. It is very important to them that the guys they bring in be able to contribute right away. HC S. McNally is very passionate about Duke Univ and its baseball program. He played at Duke and played in the Indians farm system. He was coaching in the farm system for Cleveland when he got the Duke job. He is determined to build a winning program at Duke and upgrading the facilities. Coach Snedeker is the pitching coach. He is a very engaging person who really loves to talk baseball. He is a very hard worker and was seen at just about every showcase tourney this summer and fall. Coach Boggs is the man. He played at Ga Tech and does alot of the recruiting. You will not find a nicer person to deal with in the whole process of recruiting. He is as down to earth and sincere as anyone I have ever dealt with. These guys are very dedicated and sincere about bringing a winner to Duke baseball. They recruit very hard and they are good guys. They understand that they have to upgrade the facilities. There are plans on the board for the near future. They have a full time academic advisor for the baseball team. And they play a ton of home games to ensure that the guys are not away from class anymore than they have to be. If your fortunate enough to be recruited by these guys and you have the grades to get in its a great option to have. Play in the ACC and get a degree from Duke University.

I can not stress enough how much I was impressed with this coaching staff during the recruiting process. They are first class guys. Coach Boggs attended four or five of my sons games during the HS season. He always made a point of making sure we knew he was there. The same for coach Snedeker. Its not a matter of what school you like or do not like , when people are first class they are first class. Regardless of what color of blue they wear. I still want to beat the heck out of them everytime though.

    They are fully funded

but yes it is very expensive. The kids that dont need alot of baseball money dont get alot of baseball money. They ones that do, will get the lions share. They are in the same situation as Wake Forest as far as cost. And academically Im sure there is not alot of difference if any. Duke recruits nationally looking for the right fit academic , abilitiy to attend financially and skill level. Judgeing from last years team and the progress they have made maybe they are on the right track.

    coach before

The previous coach before McNally created chaos and set that program way, way back. The new coach has an uphill battle, but sounds as if he's up to the challenge and going about it the right way.

Thanks everyone. Coach 27, that's what I was looking for. the 'skinny' on the program I was not asking because they have any interest in my son, although he would go in a heartbeat if they thought he had the talent. I was just curious why you never hear much about them. You're right about one thing. A Duke degree and chance to play in the ACC is pretty sweet. And only carrying 26 players is nice.

    Our Experience

Coach 27, I think you know my son. In HS, he was an accomplished pitcher and also valedictorian of a 4A HS. Because he doesn't throw hard, I knew the top programs were out, but I fully expected Duke to recruit him. We never heard from them until the very last minute and that was only a brief phone call from the then-recruiting coordinator. My son was not impressed with him to say the least. It worked out as he is at a great school and fits in well baseball-wise. I believe they missed out on an instate kid that could have helped them. But in all fairness, it was the old staff that dropped the ball.

Obviously $$$$ is a huge consideration but I d try and make it happen regardless... Picking another school just because or baseball (money aside) is absurd I mean come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Alot of people

missed on your son baseballman. I spent an entire summer and fall telling college coaches they were crazy for not being all over your son. But he will prove them all wrong and Davidson was all right for getting him. I believe that if the current staff was in place your boy would have been heavily recruited by them.

All I know is I watched Mac mow down the best hitters in the state every weekend that entire summer. We had a bunch of studs on that team especially pitchers. But my son said he has never caught anyone with his control and ability to pitch. Of all the guys he has ever faced he has always said Mac was the toughest to face. That told me all I needed to know.
