    Actually to be more specific

The best pitch in baseball is Strike One!

Have you seen a list of batting averages for each count? Getting that first pitch in for a strike is HUGE! Batting Averages plummet once the pitcher gets ahead in the count.

Conversely, I'm always teaching kids to be "first ball fastball" hitters!

    It's been a long week!

It's obviously been a long week. I used to (have to) watch TV with my parents. Ugh! They thought Laugh-In was communist!

You're exactly right, aguyyouknow! If we teach pitchers to get ahead in the count, they have a tremendous advantage statistically. And that's why hitter's must "let the pitcher know when he throws a strike" by jumping on it early in the AB. It may be the best/only good pitch he gets. This goes for the curveball, too if it's a hanger.

I love the way you think. I also am very reluctant to criticize the young ones for swinging at pitches out of the strike zone early in the count. Especially WHILE they are at bat! Take your hacks!
