Like I said, they are all products, if one wants to use that term. I just never have read or heard that term used in regards to amateur sports, especially at the teenage level. In my opinion, it reduces sports to a business term and shifts the focus of playing amateur sports. I just can't think of HS baseball as a product. But that's just me. I feel the same about business changing the term "Christmas Holidays" to "Happy Season's". It just doesn't seem right....but that's fine. It's not that it upsets me: I was just curious

I think some of these travel programs are a business. A lot of people are making money in AAU, USSSA and such. And I'm talking deep 6 figure money. The Triple Crown franchise is for sale in NC for 50K plus a cut of the gate for each tourney. Somebody may be making some money in showcase but I'm not sure. I have no facts to support that.

I will continue to argue that american legion baseball is the best for the high school player to showcase his talents if you will notice most of your high profile players played american legion baseball it is community support , you play to win not to just be seen you have big crowds something you do not see in showcase ball and you do have scouts pro and college and for the most part it does not cost to play for most teams.

Not doubting you. I think my son would like Legion. It also fits the schedule of a football player better than showcase. Unfortunately we don't have Legion.

However my son has met some great kids with his showcase team and formed some new friendships. It's been a fun and positive experience.

Heat '010. It's been a great experience. My son is very happy with Jason Harris and Scott Himler. They have a good concept and the boys are having fun. It's been 1st rate. I'm sure there are many other good situations out there. This one just works for him. He looks forward to the spring/summer when he will be playing only one sport.

For our family and the team that we played for 'winning' games was not a factor in playing. My son plays for The NC Baseball Academy. This team only functions in the fall and its purpose is not advancing to tournaments. It is a 12 week program that consists of 8 weekends of baseball and 12 weeks of instruction and workouts 3 nights a week.
What we wanted was another very respected, credible coach whom college coaches respect and value his opinion.
My son is not a "stud" as far as size and most people that see him play once are not blown away, but those who see him consistently know what a player he is. He doesn't hit the HR's, but always hits for an above average percentage. He doesn't have the strongest arm, but his fielding percentage, his range, his consistency, and his ability to 'get the out' are pretty darn good...even if I am his mom. :59:
With Scott Bankhead as a coach, we got what we wanted as a family...valuable instruction, another man of integrity in our sons life, and a great reference for the scouts. Win/Lose record for us didn't matter (although it is fun to win...lol). I also don't think the scouts really care about the W-L record... they are there to recruit a player and not a team...but that's just my opinion!
