Lifetime .313 (80th on all time list)
HR 494 (25th on all time list)
All time post season HR leader
    11 Time All Star
28th on all time RBI list

He ain't Old School...but he's destined for the HOF. Would I want him as a role model? No chance. Does he match what I've taught my son is the correct way to play the game? No sireeee...

Would I want Manny as a teammate? You betcha. But that's just me. I love the color when it is leads to wins.

Manny may not hustle, but so do a lot of major league players. They hit a groundball and just jog to first. There are a few who give it their all but as a whole, most don't give it their all because why hurt yourself on running to first after hitting a groundball? Thats the one thing that really pisses me off a lot, just to see them taking their sweet time to first after a sorry at-bat. When kids see them not even running to first, kids will do the same.

Coach- Timmy, why didn't you run all the way to first?
Timmy - I saw a major leaguer do it so I could do it.

Manny can flat out hit and he produces in the clutch. If he's on my team, I like him b/c he helps me win. I don't really know that his teammates like him but they understand his value at the plate. I think his comments were construed as being nonchalant b/c he doesn't always hustle, but I think he simply implied he was loose and not putting undue pressure on himself or the team. If I was the opposing team, though, I'd drill him for showboating a meaningless HR. A complex character, not a role model for how to play the game, but I never want to miss his ABs.

    not at your level

    you HS & college coaches:

I bet that you don't play guys in your lineup like Manny...........I mean a super hitter but no hustle, no defense, the hair. you just don't have that at your level, only in the pro's can they "afford" to do that.

    I like it

when he is running to home, thinks there might be a play at plate and makes a point to toss his helment as to tell the catcher I'm going flat run you down. Can't wait till someone high tags him in the jaw one good time. Maybe there. My wife even says he looks like he is wear pajama bottoms. Just sloppy. Dress like a bum you must be one.

With all of his hittng talent. Trade him to the Yankees they need some of that attiude. And I'm sure George will let him keep the hair sytle. Look at Damon (hair style not attiude). Or maybe a Japan team needs him. The fact that attiude will get one far it will also undermine a team quickly. Like the old say old bad apple spoils the bunch!

Manny must be a lucky charm then, because everywhere he goes his team is a winner. The guy is harmless in the clubhouse. His teammates love him...they always have whether in Cleveland or Boston.

In my opinion, what caused the change in baseball, in general, was when the league started promoting the game and its players as entertainment and entertainers.....like they are movie stars...and the players bought into it.

You still see the old school guys, but the game promotes the entertainers. The pitchers that shake their fist in the air, the batters that stand at home and watch the HR's and the runners that moonwalk around the bases after a HR, then point to the sky and kiss their million dollar medallions.

The peripheral fans love the entertainment, the baseball fans enjoy great baseball. Welcome to Professional sports

Exactly Braves. Manny puts $$$ in the pockets of owners & teammates. Everyone loves a winner when you are along for the ride.

I'll say again: I time my bathroom breaks around Manny's AB's. He's a ton of fun, even when (like me) you're rooting against him.

    Not in HS

No doubt, changeup2, a guy like Manny never sees the field on my team. My comments about "liking" Manny if he's on my team were assuming at the ML level. No way any amateur should conduct himself like Manny, but as others have said, pro sports have entertainment value and if his actions put people in the stands or in front of the TV, it will be allowed. No one comes to a HS game to see if a player will profile after a bomb.
