ACR did not look anything like last year. Besides that one run Darius had on the option, he was shut down. This might be due to cramps but he didn't look like he thrived in that offense. There increased passing game didn't show me much either. Wall running the quarterback keeper was about 80 percent of the offense in the second. Asheville played well after the intial shock of being down 14-0 two minutes in. ACR is still an extremly tough run defense however it did soften up after Asheville started having its way throwing. ACR's secondary got lit up like a christmas tree.

Alexander Central got their offense untracked against St Stephens. Josh Russell had a good night throwing to Byron Mays. Mays made a couple fantastic catches and Ralph Adams had a great kick-off return for td. The Cougar defense which has been very good the last few years is not anywhere near what they have been. I was impressed with the St Stephens QB, he did a good job despite having a number of passes dropped. Cougars will need to get the defense going if they are to give Hickory a battle on Friday.

Yes, you are right, but what does that say for Watauga's secondary as they gave up more to Davie Co. passing then ACR did to Asheville? I don't recall you saying that about your team.....

not meaning to offend anyone but i do believe that Davie would handle Asheville or Reynolds about as well as they did Watauga. The AHS-ACR game could have gone either way, ACR seemed to take advantage of everything they got early (the int stands out especially) but overall they did not seem like the ACR i've been hearing so much about. The passing game was non existant (as is wataugas reynoldsrocks, you don't need to say it) and spencer seemed overwhelmed.

On another note am i the only one surprised by the point spread of the freedom-shelby match? I thought shelby would have thier way in this game...

Don't you understand that the passing game you heard about was there, we passed 16 times completing 10 of them that is ALOT for ACR. However when the running game is working (the QB especially) why go and do something else? There was no need to pass. Sure Davie might handle both of us (ASH and ACR), however they passed for more yards against Watauga then Asheville did against ACR, and my point is why wasn't it mentioned that Watauga's secondary was "lit up like a christmas tree"? Because it's your team and it's not easy to say that about your team, but when it's other teams it's easy to say huh! I admit our defense isn't last years team, but they will be okay, it's not many times a team has to face a player like Morgan.

On paper that looks like a fairly easy win for Shelby but the Freedom/Shelby series has always been a tight series throughout the years so when considering the history of the rivalry it's not huge shock that it was a close.

Morgan is no Benge, but lets face it we both got torched. I don't think Reynolds defense will be there problem IMO. They can fix the secondary. I think they need to be more concerned about the offense. That spread does not lead to the most productive form of Darius Spencer. The way for Spencer to be affective is to get him to the outside. The I and the two tight one back worked well for him. Those inside gives out of the gun leads no where for him. He got stuffed. The QB run that Wall kept running was because Asheville would rather give him 3-4 then Spencer 6-7. They played pitch man. Besides, one long run, and Morgans pass to the ACR linebacker. ACR only could muster two sustained drives. ACR needs to get Spencer more involved to the outside and throw the ball down the field.

I am not the least bit worried about watauga right now because

    a) that game is 10 weeks away
    b) we have a tough non-conference schedule
    c) the pioneers are not the best opponent we will see in the nw4a
    d) our strengths and weaknesses match up well against watauga
    e) watauga has NEVER beaten us in conference play
    f) there will be no home field advantage

Your right. The freedom/patton-shelby game was much closer than some expected.
