-originally very surprised brackman went to high then listened to gammons and it made sense. I'm sure the yankees did their homework and know his injury is minor.
-surprised chris jacobs went as high as he did, but knowing Mr. Joyce there was alot of conversation about signability
-FYI, talked to an area supervisor about MB today. Said the slots are 12% less than they were last year. thought 2M sounded about right but anything over would have to be ok'd by the commish office.

I know its easy to look at the place someone was drafted and say that because they were drafted later or earlier it has significance on the player is sometimes just not the case. I think with the Boras guys, when the signings start occurring it will be a lot more evident as to why they went this route, more money. I'm actually shocked that Brackman fell as low as he did, sure he has had durability problems and the arm is a concern, scouts are going to see 6'10 and an upper ninetys fastball, and this one is not cooler talk its the real deal. Bumgardner and legion? I think it shows that no matter what you do if you can do it on the field people will find you.

Anybody know any information about UNC players signing or not signing, I assume Horton and Carignan will probably be gone and I've heard from a close friend that Putkonen will probably sign also, I was wondering if any word on Fronk? and some of the others drafted later? As far as the high school players draft status I would say UNC had a great draft with Porcello and Harvey falling.

    braves-

I completely agree with you on selig being a moron in almost every aspect of his legacy.....

on my end last year the giants picked lincecum with the same pick for 2.025 and we all know where he is 12 months later. I'm telling you they are trying to take back over the draft bonus wise. just two years later, MB is looking at 1.7 less than the same pick.

You're right...I know he is trying to do that and has been successful to a degree. But then you have the Notre Dame kid, Smyrdjia (I will never get that name right) who signs with the Cubs for 7 million and there are others as well. This year, Porcello, was selected by the Tigers later in the 1st round. The Tigers have already made it known that they will pay above slot money.

I know that Selig is trying to put pressure on the clubs to reduce bonuses, but we are talking baseball here...where the owners rarely listen to the commish.

This concern is usually what makes pro guys shy away. That's why I was surprised...pleasantly so.
