I agree with you. When Northwest Cabarrus faces them next week I will be nervous when he comes to the plate, but it will be double trouble if he's pitching too.

More area "under the radar guys":

A.L. Brown's senior infielder Micheal Boger: great arm, speed, glove, and is currently batting +.500 for the Wonders.

Mt. Pleasant's Garrett Furr: can play ANY position and has speed. He has a good hard fastball and hits for average and power --- and he's only a sophomore!

Under the Radar players from the Rocky River Conference

West Stanly's starting shortstop Matthew (Jubal) Burrelson. I would put this player up against any in the Charlotte area. He has great hands, speed, and can smash the ball. This is the young man that pitched against CCS and came away with the victory last year.
West Stanly's Matt Large junior P/OF, picked up a win against Sun Valley on Thursday, then on Friday goes 3 for 4 against Piedmont.
West Stanly's Bradly Love junior P/Utility goes 3 for 4 against Piedmont. He has pitched in relief this year and has not allowed a base runner.
Adrian Shepard, sophomore left handed pitcher from North Stanly, has pitched well. I don't have any stats on him at this point.
Garrett Furr, sophomore from Mount Pleasant, has a great bat and can throw the rock. He pitched Mount to a victory against North Stanly and he just dominated them.
BJ Byerley, senior from Albemarle, has pitched very well. I don't know his record as of yet. I believe he has taken a loss or two, most of the games that Albemarle has lost has been 2-1, or 3-2.
RJ Lowder Albemarle, a raw athlete who can throw the rock. He plays the infield when he is not pitching.
These are some of the athletes in the RRC that get overlooked. I am sure that I have overlooked some as well.

Great post DCL....question for you. You lost a great coach this year, so what are the thoughts of your new coach at West Stanly? Did he come from the program?

Oh...and I agree with your opinion on Burleson. He is very good and is under the radar

    West Stanly's New Coach

West Stanly's new coach is Marko Little. Marko graduated from West Stanly. I believed he played at ASU and UNCC. My thoughts on Marko are this. West Stanly will be a better hitting team, than in the past. This is one of Marko's strength. I believed he has assembled a very good quality coaching staff. Tate Osborne (former coach Kannapolis Legion Team) Derrick Barringer ( I believe went to UNC-Wilmington) former pitcher. Marko is the Stanly County legion coach, basically I feel he has breathed new life into that program after many down years in the past.
Coach Lee left the program in excellent shape for someone to take over.
This years team had to replace a lot of positions from last years team. An entire new starting outfield, two starting pitchers that had a combined era of below 1.50 ( one is at Lenoir Rhynne, the other is at Wingate), a catcher that is at Pheiffer. With that said I believe West is going through some growing pains but is adapting very quick and very well. Marko has used 3 different lineups in four different games. Marko is blessed with pitching in Wil Huneycutt (signed at Catawba), Nate Furr ( signed at Catawba), Matthew Jubal Burrelson, Matt Large, Bradly Love, and Matt Reed. The first three are seniors, the next three are juniors. By the way he has some very good pitching coming up from the JV next year barring injury. This is West Stanly's best sport year in, year out. They have a strong feeder program in their local rec programs and most kids through the community play some type of travel ball. Honestly I feel Marko will be a very good fit and the school a very good fit for Marko.

    Jv'er to watch

Went to the Hopewell vs. Prodivence JV game last Friday and saw a kid throw the 7th inning for Hopewell (no.12) Hunter May. Tremendous velocity and command but even more impressive were his mechanics. Wanted to see if it was a fluke so contacted the school and went back and watched him Monday throw a complete game against Olympic. Although Olympic is not the caliber of Providence, May threw 80 pitches in 7 complete innings, showed little if any fall off in his velocity, had 10 strikes outs, walked one and allowed only three hits. Not sure where he has played his AAU/USSSA ball or where he is playing this summer, but if you get a chance this is a kid to watch. Coach Billings really has a jewel in this one.
