Ever heard this term before in high school baseball (exception)?

"Exemption".....with the recent team selections in the SW4A over the past couple of weeks, I heard this term applied to a couple of players from 2 schools in the conference.

Can someone explain what this means and why a high school coach would do this?

Sorry E, I have never heard that term as it applies to baseball. I could hazard a guess, but I'm sure i would be wrong.

    term correction

Apparently the correct term is "exception". I understand this is applied to a player that the coach is unsure whether they want to cut the player or not. I don't think there are ANY advantages from labelling the player this, only that the coach is unsure about the players status. In the case of the player that I am aware of, the coach has had him on his team for 3 years. Wouldn't you think think that the coach could make up his mind by then?

I would be interested to know if any other schools across the state use this and why?

Either a person is on the team or he is not. If he is, then playing time is determined by coaches' evaluations. If he is on the team and does not get to play as much, well that's just the way it goes. The bottom line is you can have as many players on your team as the number of uniforms you have, so to me labeling as exception or exemption, or whatever you label it is a moot point. He is either on or not on the team.
