While attending a team showcase event a few weeks back, I was standing next to a D1 head coach. Someone associated with one of the teams participating(a parent) came around handing out nice pamphlets containing info & stats on the team members. I commented to the coach that I thought this was a neat idea. He agreed , but said it was totally unecessary(too much over-hype). He would make his assessments by watching the players play, not by perusing stats. The only stat he said he liked to check was the pitcher's K/IP.

You will see different opinions from different coaches. I know when we were going through the recruiting process some wanted to see Ryan pitch, others wanted a video, others wanted the stats from his High School coach only....most will let you know what they need.

yet at the same token I do appreciate and understand his logic... Sadly, they often times think they KNOW IT ALL..."not":newsmile38:

    Information

I would think Name, Address and Phone Number would be a good start. I'd also include GPA/SAT or other such information. Stats are fine too as long as they are handed out "by the team" and include all the players.

It would be a big "NO NO" for Dad or Mom to hand out promo stuff on their own boy only at one of these events. Now, if you want to mail the stuff out with a nice cover letter about your son that's fine. Just don't make it look like a slick marketing campaign. .275 with 0 HR doesn't look good no matter what paper it's printed on.
