When his slider is working, it is unhittable...at any level. Wait and see.

    Miller

I saw Miller make very good hitters look sick with metal bats. Miller is going to be a pro a long time if he stays healthy. The kid can bring it and he has an unhittable slider when he has it working. How much better is he going to get as he gets older and stronger and smarter? The kid is as bad as he's going to be! He is only going to get better. And hes pretty darn good right now.

after reading what I wrote earlier, it occurred to me that if you are called up to the big leagues before sept 1st you are eligible for the post season roster. After sept 1st is your cup of coffee. teams don't bring people up by accident on aug 30th. maybe he will have a bigger role this fall than I expected.

Yeah....but he still will lose a lot of money with the sharks and having to buy dinners.

I'm with you Prep, Andrew has a devastating slider that is above average at the MLB level....staying there is another matter. But it is a tremendoous opportunity to gain some valuable experience.

I also understand Daniel Bard signed last week. I just don't have any more details right now.

Hey Braves....Red Sox website did show Daniel signing last week. No details were disclosed but did say Daniel would report Sept 18th to Fort Myers for Instructional League.

MLB has a slotting system that teams are supposed to follow when paying draft picks, but Bard probably wanted a good deal more than what the 28th selection normally gets.

Here's a rundown of 10 of the most interesting guys to get the call so far.
    Andrew Miller, LHP, Tigers

Miller's call-up was preordained by a clause in the contract he signed with Detroit after the Tigers selected him with the sixth overall pick in this year's Rule 4 Draft mandating his recall this season. The Tigers are publicly saying that the mandate has nothing to do with their decision to recall him, which seems somewhat specious. That said, Miller is in a good position to contribute to the Tigers down the stretch and even to help them in the playoffs if he's used judiciously. Although his velocity was down to the 90-94 mph range in his debut last week at Yankee Stadium, he still had the plus slider and low arm angle that makes him so tough on lefties, and even threw a few curveballs as well. He provides a solid late-game alternative to Jamie Walker, who has spent most of his career as a lefty specialist, but who has struggled against left-handed hitters in a small sample this year. Unlike Walker, Miller has enough stuff to give you some confidence that he can get a right-handed hitter out as well.
