N Pitt: Only three travel ball players

N Pitt won the 2A title despite having only 3 kids who play any travel ball. Have any other state champs in recent had so few?

All's they needed when they played us was pitcher and catcher. Both deserve alot of credit for this one. All's we needed in our game was to get somebody out on a bunt more than 30% of time. Maybe we'll make adjustments for next year. Good lesson in small ball. But give those two lots of credit - I don't think anyone scored on them in entire playoffs except 2 in Graham game. Hitting those pitches with full swing was impossible. Wasn't catcher the old pitcher prior to transfer coming in? If so, I believe this really helped as she understands what pitcher is going thru, knows what pitches are working, etc... They were fun to watch (not really... more like excruciating=)).

    North Pitt Pitcher/Catcher

The pitcher for N Pitt is Faith Sutton ('07). She transferred over from Greenville Christian. She may be the best in the state (I don't want to argue with Gina, MO, Hummer, Ashton, etc proponents); at least according to one well known travel ball coach for whom she play this summer. Rumors around her recruitment include the University of Tenn. The catcher did pitch @ NP prior to Faith's arrival but was a "pitcher by necessity". Tiffany Shaw became the "catcher of necessity" as she was the only kid @ NP who could handle Sutton. Shaw is really a great middle IF. Is an invited walkon @ ECU. As for pitch selection, its all done from the dugout (Sutton's Dad). I couldn't beleive the opposing coaches chose to pitch to either in the playoffs. The truth is no other girl on the NP team really had any chance of hitting quality pitching. A couple could bunt but that's really it! These two girls virtually won the state title single-handedly! Doubt it could happen that way @ 3A/4A. Mo was great @ KM but also had a pretty good supporting cast.

    Great Weekend

If you are a fan of pitching and defense and playing small ball. In all the games it definately seems you scored your runs 60 feet at a time. Id like to take this time to say, "Mo im just an old redneck boy, but the only word i got to describe you accomplished this weekend is, DAMN!!!" Also, it needs to be mentioned and always remembered Mo threw every pitch but Kala caught every pitch...37 innings behind the plate. I cant quite remember what innning it was in the championship game, either the 4th or 5th, 0-2 on the lead off batter change up off the plate gets away, kala jumps on the ball a good 10-12 feet from the plate on the third base side and throws a strike to first. That play will always stand out in my mind. Im the first one to say i love teams that can play defense and pitch but everyone would like to see a little more offense, so if it was my vote, the mound would be back 43ft. I do believe in the saying a good hitter at 40ft will definately excel at 43ft. On another thought I to was upset about the 10 dollar gate for saturday. I spent 82 dollars to watch 3 games. Im going to use the old saying, it was worth every penny....priceless. Im going to miss all 7 seniors from kings mtn, its been a pleasure watching yall play the last two years. I know my daughter will not only miss yall as teammates, but also as friends. Losing 7 seniors might seem that kings mtn is being deleted, but we have the players coming back that with hard work and a little luck we can keep this thing rollin. When i say a little lluck the past two years i believe we won these last 2 state finals with hard work, dedication from the ladies, heart, and the will to play every inning and every pitch..yes and a little luck to boot. On another thought, Ronnie, i hate they're runnin you out of kings mtn. Again Mo, outstanding. Right now i think coach hawkins maybe one of the smartest coaches and i dont even know the man for getting that special player when other coaches was twiddling their thumbs. R Cogdill

Shaw and Sutton were outstanding and throughly enjoyed watching them.

KM's supporting cast have played together or travel ball their whole life, since 10 y/o.....experience is the key.

thanks for sharing your observation from the Creek!

QUOTE: All you need to train for pitching is Dad on the bucket. Hitting is very different. The truth is T-work, soft toss and even machine hitting only gets you so far. You must see live pitching to improve. In truth, I suspect most great hitters are born that way. They have a gift of great eye sight quick hands (see Ted Williams). I bet 70% of all hitting practice makes little difference.

Wow! You make pitching sound so minor. Wrists snaps, pull downs, walk throughs and Dad on the bucket only gets a pitcher so far. I suspect most great pitchers are born with natural ability, speed and/or movement. I bet few pitchers can train their way to becoming outstanding, regardless of reps. If just throwing thousands of pitches to Dad on the bucket did it why doesn't every pitcher have a killer rise, deadly drop and throw 65 mph? A good pitcher must face live batting against the very best hitters possible to be at the top of her game. If a good batter struggles with the inside pitch throw them to her from a 'good live pitcher' every day until she masters it. Hitters need to train with live pitching and pitchers need to face live batting. Both take God given talent, dedication and attitude... you just can't train a person to have it or really want it! :thud: :twocents:
