Da Bears came out flatter than my wife's homemade biscuits (luckily she doesn't read this board). I'm not sure that they were overconfident or what, but they left their focus and defense in Hickory.

One thing about baseball, it will humble you...and quickly! But another great thing about baseball...you get to forget about it and play another game.
Two observations I would like to make:

    - LR has some quality young men on their team. How do I know? Because they have some great supporters to their program. Even John " Hot Chocolate" MacCurdy helped ol' Braves out in a time of need. I sure enjoy this group of parents and believe me when I say this....the chemistry of the parents is almost as important as the chemistry on the team. Heck...even the C (squares) Conrad and Tarleton were offering to help out in the field if needed. There is another person I will save for another thread, but he is what a supporter is all about, John Rhyne. The founder of Lenoir Rhyne. John looks young for his age, but he loves Lenoir Rhyne, supports all their programs and is a fountain of information. I will discuss him later.

    - Somebody needs to watch Coach Keever. At one time, I swear, he was unbuttoning his jacket and grabbing a bat. I think he just wanted to demonstrate one more time the art of hitting. To prove that a hitter should never give any respect to a pitcher..that all their pitches are junk and powder puffs. That every pitch in the hitting zone should be met with contempt and result in lasers shot to the gaps...and he's right (at least the mentality)

It's going to be so nice to have Matt Wiley back in the lineup. Not only has LR missed his bat and defense, but especially his leadership. To watch him sitting on the bench is like watching a caged tiger...it ain't pretty.

I must congratulate Brad Boob, Butler HS. Brad pitched a gem for Coker and kept getting stronger as the game wore on. Great job, Brad!!!!

I don't remember the scores of the two games and I don't think we won them because I seem to remember after one base hit saying, " Great job guys..only 19 more and we've got 'em". But on to Belmont Abbey and to finally have some "Great weather" on Wednesday. The TBR bus will be arriving around 1:30for the 2:00 game if anybody needs a ride.

    Coker's Revenge

The Bears swept three easily from Coker last year at our place, one of which was more like a football score. I sensed the Cobras were out for revenge, and they got it. The Bears never got anything going.

Coker's field has to be one of the largest in the world if the dimensions are true to their indication. 365 down the lines, 387 to the gaps, and soenthing like 421 to straight away center.

    To the LR supporters

I appreciate you reading the threads, but it is more fun when you comment. Papabear, Redsoxfan and myself will get tired talking to ourselves all year.

So, c'mon..join in the fun as Da Bears chase the Conference Title!!!!!

Oh...and I won't tell the coaches if the players participate also

Has he got to play the field and bat any or just used for pitching?

pitching only. I know Dan was a great position player and hitter in HS, but you won't find many pitchers in college getting to play another position. They are all athletes, but pitchers pitch and don't get many opportunities to practice anything else. But believe me...all the pitchers want to hit. They hate the DH:banginghe

    Coop

Coop swung a good bat and played a good 3rd base in high school and Legion when he wasn't on the mound. I think they wanted him to concentrate on pitching when he got to L-R.

jr will start game one saturday against a very good mt. olive team. Hopefully his body holds up and lets him have the outing he was on his way to last time against Pfeiffer.
