I'll let NCBballfan and NC-Dad provide the details, but what a heartbreaking loss to South Carolina yesterday.... 5-4 in 11 innings. Chastain for Elon pitched his heart out and deserved the win. Elon pitchers combined for 10 K's against the highly explosive Gamecocks

I'll get you to your answer; so that you and others know how to answer that sort of question quickly virtually anytime you want to know:

Go to the following link and click the date on the calendar that the game was played. That'll take you to a list of the games played that day, their scores; and, in most cases, links to their box scores and recaps.

Elon turned the table on USC today by winning 2-1. Interestingly, neither has posted a box score on their websites as of 8:30 P. So no specifics.....yet. I listened to the last couple of innings on the internet and it sounded like a well pitched game for both teams.

South Carolina finally got their "big inning" with the bats, pulling off a 5 run 5th inning in the game today against Elon ... with all 5 runs plated with 2 outs.

That was enough to put away the Phoenix 8-3. South Carolina took the series 2 games to 1, but, except for that one inning, the two teams played dead-even the rest of the weekend .... EXACTLY DEAD EVEN ....

... Geez, this was fun. The "Sarge" is a great venue for your first college baseball game. Having 3000 fans riding your butt and trying to get under your skin is a tiny change from HS. Extremely intense for an opening series that's non-conference.

.... this is going to be FUN !!!!

A few more observations about South Carolina:

Andrew Cruse (Hopewell) started friday and looked great. He gave up some early runs but settled right down and pitched fine.

Arik Hempy (Garner) looks to be the ace of the staff this year. You could see the "dance of the radar guns" from the pro-scouts behind the fence on every pitch.

The two top freshmen for SC who bypassed being picked in the draft, Reese Havens and Justin Smoak are going to be excellent. Once Geisler graduates, I think they will move Havens to 3rd though.

    ----------
South Carolina is going to be a strong team this year. We'll have to see how the hitting develops as the season goes on. The SC Faithful were a bit disturbed to see Elon on the schedule. SC was 59-1 in the month of february coming into this game since 2000. They had won 26 straight games coming into the series. Going to extra-innings in game #1, losing in game #2 and having just the 1 big inning in game #3 has to be a bit disturbing. They were expecting a walk-over and it didn't happen (See NC State vs Hofstra for a definition of a walk-over).
